Alice Loughran Vinnedge, daughter of
Thomas and Elizabeth Longhran, was born in Montreal Canada, on
January 8th, 1859. She was one of a family of four children,
and moved with her parents from Canada to Saunders County, Near
Fremont, in 1874. On December 30, 1877, in Wahoo, Nebraska,
she was united in marriage ot Jacob Lewis VVinnedge. To this
union were born seven children, three whom died in infancy.
The following children were reared in Taylor: Elizabeth (Mrs.
Robert Rusho); Pearl (Mrs. Arthru Himes); Emma(Mrs. Clay Coffman);
Lyla (Mrs. Ralph Rose). There was also a stepson, William L.
Vinnedge.
Mr. and Mrs. Vinnedge were among the early Loup
County pioneers, making their home on a small Loup Valley farm about
four miles northwest of Taylor. Later they moved into Taylor,
where for some time they operated what was known as the Farmer's
Hotel and also the Pavillion Hotel.
Mrs. Vinnedge was highly
regarded for her friendliness, generosity, and for the well prepared
meals which were served to her guests. She was never
idle. In her later years, when no long able to do strenuous
work, she spent hours and hours knitting lace and making rag
rugs.
Mrs. Vinnedge departed this life in Taylor on October
25, 1955. |
