24th Annual Reunion

 

The 24th annual reunion of the Lewis family was held in the Baptist Church parlors.

 

Thursday July 4th, a lovely cool day following very hot humid ones helped make the reunion a most pleasant one.

 

At one o’clock after the group had sang our thanks and Alvena Winter had expressed them in words the buffet dinner was served.

 

Thirty five members were seated at the long table.

 

Following the dinner the group gathered in the auditorium of the church for the program.

 

All sang “Blest be the ties that bind”, followed by prayer by Sadie Winter.

 

Group singing was led by Jessie Aukes with Alvena at the piano.

 

Minutes of July 4th, 56 were read and approved.

 

Communications were read from Nellie Lewis of Roswell, New Mexico and Frances Armour Lannom of Chula Vista, California.  Jessie Aukes brought greetings from Claude and Wilma Wheeler who were unable to be present.

 

Sadie Winter told of a phone call from their son Lewis of Phoenix sending their best wishes.

 

Betty Freeborn and Margaret Mosley presented the following program:

Alvena reported that she and Fred had two new grandchildren. 

 

A son Fred, parents Frederick Dale and Lois Winter.

 

A son, Micheal, parents, Rolland and Marvel Winter.

 

And that Nellie Winter Andreas had passed away January 4, 1957.

 

Mildred Hall reported that Elsie, wife of Chas Winter was physically unable to be present.

 

Jessie Aukes spoke of their son Lewis’ work for the government.

 

Sadie Winter said she and Lewis had never missed a reunion.

 

Lois Winter said she was proud to be a member of this family and told briefly of their work in Colorado.

 

Richard Winter who had started a round robin letter among the Winter cousins read the letters from the out of town cousins.

 

It was voted to retain the old officers.

 

We were dismissed by a prayer by Lewis.
