28th Annual
Reunion
The twenty eighth reunion of the Lewis family was held in
the Western Baptist Church Parlors, July 4, 1961.
Only twenty five were present to partake of the delicious
and bounteous fried chicken dinner.
After dinner the president, Lewis Winter, opened the meeting
by prayer and group singing, led by Jessie Aukes. After the guests were welcomed the minutes of
1960 were read and approved.
Letters of greeting were read from the Archie White family
vacationing in California, Lewis Winter, Jr.
family of Phoenix, Arizona
and the Richard Stone family of Comstock,
Nebraska.
Margaret Mosley was in charge of the following short
program.
Cornet solo – Pamela Winter – “Faith of Our Fathers”
Leslie and Barbara Mosley sand a duet “Side by Side” with
Margaret, their mother at the piano
Kathy and Jeani Freeborn, a duet “Over the Rainbow”, their
mother Betty Freeborn accompanying them.
Jessie Aukes – solo “One Little Candle”, Alvena Winter at
the piano
Each family told of their won family and loved ones.
Jessie Aukes said their son Lewis was in Pardu, working on
his Master’s Degree.
Mildred Hall reported that her sister was better physically
and that Elsie, widow of Cha Winter, was unable to attend.
Alvena Winter said their daughter Lois, now teaching in Whittier, California
schools had been honored by having their school annual dedicated to her.
Ann Armour said her daughter Mary and family had moved back
to Comstock, Nebraska
and that daughter Fran and family of Charleston,
South Carolina, had been here on
a visit registering their con Jim in the Nebraska Uni.
Betty Freeborn reported that their daughter Kathy had just
returned for all State
High School fine arts
course.
Margaret Mosley said she was taking a summer course at
Draue.
Sadie Winter said that L. T. Lewis, son of the late Jesse
Lewis was in Rochester, Minnesota, for a check up. She and Lewis had just returned from taking
their son Lewis’ children to Arizona to meet
their parents returning via Colorado
and brought greetings from Ruth Wilkin and Naomi Plummer.
The Historian, Alvena Winter reported a son born to Rollie
and Marvel Winter and a grandchild to Bernice and Less Miller.
Also the death of a child of Jerry Winter and wife and of
Charlie, son of Fred and Nancy Winter.
Jessie Aukes moved all officers he retained – carried.
The president announced that 12:30 was the time set for
dinner.
Supper was served at 6 o’clock and a fireworks display was
enjoyed in the evening.
