29th Annual Reunion

 

 

The 29th Annual Reunion of the Lewis family was held in the Western Baptist Church parlors.

 

There were 24 present for the bountiful fried chicken dinner.  After dinner Archie White returned thanks. 

 

After the dinner the president, Lewis Winter opened the meeting and asked Sadie Winter to offer prayer.  With Marvel Winter at the piano and Margaret Mosley leading the group song, “America the Beautiful” and “America”. 

 

The minutes of the a961 meeting were read by Alvena Winter acting Secretary.  They were approved.

 

The program consisted of:

 

A piano solo by Nancy Winter, “The Acrobat”

A piano solo by Peggy White, “Theme from the Apartment”

A saxophone cornet duet, “Abide with Me”, by Barbara and Leslie Mosley accompanied by Peggy White.

 

Letters of greeting were read from the following:

 

Anne Armour and Betty Freeborn who were visiting the Lannoms in South Carolina

Frances Lannom, Charleston, South Carolina

Jessie and John Aukes, Red Cloud, Nebraska

Dr. Lewis, Jr. Winter and Family of Phoenix

Naomi and Mary Plummer of Lakewood, Colorado

Richard Winter of Phoenix

Mildred Hall of Yuma, Colorado

 

A communication from the Mayor of Washington, D. C., contributed by Ann Armour, was read by Fred D. Winter of Omaha.

 

The historians report was given by Alvena Winter:

 

Sherrol Wheeler Viba has a daughter, Lori Lynn, about 7 or 8 months old, born, January 1, 1962.

Claudine Wheeler Geistiinger a daughter Troy Flynn, born on November 22, 1961.

Rolland Dale & Paul Winter have both married during the year and Rollands have a daughter Cynthia Darl.

 

There were also 2 deaths reported:

 

Gene Lewis, son of Glen Lewis

Percy Hall, son of Louisa Lewis Hall.

 

Alvena Winter reported their daughter Lois is spending the summer at her beach home.

 

The Dr. Robert Winter Family are looking forward to the marriage of their daughter Sharon in October.

 

Sadie Winter reported that Elsie Winter had sent greetings also.

 

Marvel Winter reported Mary Stone had asked her to extend their greetings and they regretted they were unable to be with us.

 

Elaine White and Fred D. Winter brought greetings for their families and said they were happy to be here.

 

Margaret Mosley said she enjoyed the letters.

 

Sadie Winter suggested a committee be appointed to promote attendance next year which was afterward decided each one should invite people in their Christmas Cards.

 

Suggested by Elaine we try to have a longer program next year and that a copy of the “Westerner” be sent to absent relatives with a report of the Reunion.

 

The president asked Alvena and Margaret to prepare a write up for the paper and that he would mail them.

 

Iverna Goodell was greeted by the president.

 

Moved by Fred D. Winter officers be returned seconded and carried.

The meeting was closed with prayer by Margaret Mosley.

 

Supper was served at 7 after which the group went to the park to watch the fire works which were put on by a Mr. Austin who was living in a trailer house and he was with the Road Construction.

 

Then to Rollie Winters where the children enjoyed their own fireworks.

 

Fred and Alvena Winter celebrated their 50th Anniversary November 22, 1951.
