Dr. H. N. Chaffee of Bellevue Passed Away Yesterday Morning

Dr. H. N. Chaffee of Bellevue, one of the oldest settlers in Nebraska, and the pioneer physician of this section of the country, died yesterday morning in Bellevue at the advanced age of 83 years.

Dr. Chaffee was born near Syracuse, New York, October 17, 1810.

He removed in an early day to Ohio, where he took a medical course in the Cincinnati Medical College, graduating from that institution with high honors.

In September 1850 he came further west and located at Bellevue, where he began the practice of medicine, which he continued to a few years ago when on account of age he retired.

Dr. Chaffee was a man of high integrity and intellectual ability, possessing qualities which made him a host of friends in Sarpy and Douglas Counties.

The doctor was a member of the Baptist Church, but there being no church of his persuasion here Rev. J. D. Kerr, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, will conduct the funeral services, which will be held Thursday at the family residence.

The remains will be sent east to Erie, Pennsylvania, and interred in the family burying ground.

The doctor leaves a wife and several children who are married and living in Southern Nebraska.
