John Langdon Is Dead at 81

Son of Pioneers Ran Store in Gretna

Gretna, Neb., Oct. 31 - John Langdon, 81, landowner and merchant, one of the first white children born in Sarpy county, died at his home here last night.

He was born near old Forest City, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Langdon, pioneer settlers. With his brother, the late P.J. Langdon, he cleared a cornfield to build the first store in what became the town of Gretna. For years the Langdon store was a center of pioneer farm activity. He had extensive land holdings in the county.

Surviving are his wife, whom he married 56 years ago; two sons, William and Roy, and a daughter, Mrs. Joseph W. Koke, all of Gretna. A sister, Miss Catharine Langdon, lives in Omaha.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 at St. Patrick’s church here. Rev. J.J. O’Flynn is in charge. Burial in Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Gretna.
