Elmer Nickerson Dies in Topeka

Elmer S. Nickerson, 73, former Sarpy county attorney and formerly superintendent of schools at Gretna and Fullerton, Neb., died Saturday in a Topeka, Kans., hospital where he was taken a week ago. He had been ill for several months.

Born in Pennsylvania, Mr. Nickerson came to Gretna in the late ‘90’s. From the school superintendency there he went to Fullerton and returned to Gretna to enter the law. He served two terms as county attorney, one before and one after the world war.

Friends said last night he had often been urged to run for district judge by declined, and also had declined offers to join law firms in Omaha. He was a member of the Masonic lodge and St. Paul’s Methodist church at Papillion.

Survivors include the widow, Lulu; three sons, James F., Bay Shore, N.Y., Edward C. Freeport, Ill., and Ralph J., his law partner and former county attorney. The body will be brought to the Claire mortuary at Papillion today.
