Franco-Prussian War Veteran Was Founder of Church Here

Fritz Rechenberg, a veteran of the Franco-Prussian war and who was instrumental in organization here of the St. John's Evangelical Church, died at the family home1021 Summit Ave, yesterday morning at 9:30 o'clock from pneumonia. Mr. Rechenberg was 66 years of age and was well known in Springfield, having lived here continuously since 1883.

Mr. Rechenberg was born in West Prussia July 1, 1848. He served in the German army in the war with France. On August 14 1881, he departed from his native land for America. For two years Mr. Rechenberg lived in Elmira, NY. He moved to Springfield in 1883. He was active in many German organizations in Springfield and was a charter member of Kiowa Tribe #38 I.O.R.M [Improved Order of Redmen].

The decedent is survived by the widow and six children, three daughters and three sons as follows: Mrs. W.A. Ziska, Mrs. M.C. Hays and Mrs. Hannah Clouser all of Springfield, Karl Rechenberg of Springfield, J.B. and Harry Rechenberg of Memphis, TN.

The sons living in Memphis arrived in Springfield this morning to attend the funeral which will be held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the family home.

Rev. John T. Bacon, pastor of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church will have charge of the service at the house while the Redmen will conduct the last rites at the grave in the Maple Park Cemetery.
