Death of Sarpy Pioneer

Papillion, Neb., April 1 - John M. Sitherd died at 1 o’clock this morning at his home here. He had been ill a long time.

Mr. Sitherd was born in Ohio in 1838. He came to Sarpy county in 1867. He served in Company E Eighty-third Illinois volunteer infantry in the civil war, and at the battle of Fort Donelson, he was raised to sergeant for conspicuous bravery. He was a retired farmer and wealthy. Prior to his death he made all his funeral arrangements.

He will be buried Tuesday by the Grand Army, services being conducted at 10 a.m. by Rev. Charles W. Savidge of Omaha and Rev. W.E. Becker of this city. He leaves a widow and three children.
