Land Taken Up Rapidly
Settlers Going Into Western Nebraska in Droves
D. Clem Deaver of the Burlington's home seeking department has returned from Thedford, where he took and located a party of twenty five farmers from Iowa.
Deaver says that the land in Thomas County is being taken up very rapidly and by actual settlers. During May, 315 fillings were made at the land offices at Alliance and Broken Bow for land in Thomas and adjoining counties.
Deaver states that the cattlemen are not offering any resistance to the settlers. Most of the fences that heretofore enclosed the land have been removed and where the fences are not down the gates have been taken away, so that there is not difficulty experienced in getting over the country.
Throughout Thomas, Blaine, Hooker and Cherry counties there has been abundance of rain this spring. All of the streams are filled and running. All of the old lake beds are bank full. The vegetation is far advanced for stock. Where crops have been planted, they look fine, and the people are all feeling
hopeful of raising a good crop.
