The Old Folks At Home
Thurston County
Some of Nebraska's Centenarians who still live and have their being
Pender, Nebraska, April 6 - (Special Correspondence of the World-Herald)
William Swesey, the oldest citizen of Thurston County, gave your correspondent the following history of his life:
He was born in Pennsylvania in 1817. He has had seven children, three boys and four girls, of whom four are now living. He is also the happy grandfather of fourteen grandchildren.
He moved from Pennsylvania to Ohio in 1828, from thence to Iowa in 1862, becoming dissatisfied he moved to Wisconsin in 1863, and hearing about the wealth being “picked up” in Iowa decided to move back again, which he did.
He came to Burt County, Nebraska in 1869, where he lived until 1885, when he moved to Athens (the name that Pender started under) being the second man to see the new place. He built the first house erected in Pender, and now lives in conform and ease, having enough worldly goods.
