In 1854 this area was admitted to the Utah Territory
On March 2, 1861 the Territory of Nevada was established and was when the name "Nevada" was adopted.
October 31, 1864 Nevada was admitted as the 36th State.
The State Capital is Carson City, an independent city.
Mining is an important industry - Nevada is the 4th largest producer of gold in the world.
Nevada is the driest state in the United States and is made up of mostly desert and semi-arid climate regions.
