Soda Lake in Churchill County This county was named after a Mexican-American War hero brevet Brigadier General Sylvester Churchill. It was formed in 1861 but not organized until 1864. The County has had several county seats: Bucklands, 1861-1864, which is now in Lyon County; La Plata 1864-1868, Stillwater 1868-1904 and Fallon 1904 to the present.
