Elijah Grout (probably) did not remove with his family from Lunenburg to Charlestown before the year 1766. His name lst appears in Charlestown records in 1768 when he was elected 2nd Selectman which office he filled 6 times. He threw all his energies into the cause of independence in the Revolutionary War. After the decease of his lst wife, Mary Willard, he m. (2) Dec. 1786
the widow Abigail Hutchins widow of Phineas Hutchins whose children numbered ten which exactly equalled his own. They were married at Walpole by Rev. Fessenden.
(note: Elijah Grout had had eleven but Patty his youngest by Mary Willard had died) Abigail

Ebenezer and Mary Putnam. She b. Jan 13, 1749-50. Their Children:

2. Solomon Grout Jr. b. Jan 20, 1774 m. Sebra Allen of Middlesex, VT had eight daughters and one sone and died.
3. Jesse Grout b. May 15, 1775; d., Sept 16, 1776
4. Charlotte Grout b. Nov 29, 1777 m. Wm. McClintock of Elmore, VT had four children and d. Mar 12, 1829.
5. Ebenezer Grout b. Apr 29, 1779 m. Abigail Clark of Rockingham, VT and settled in St. Charles, Canada East in 1809 had five children and died Mar 12, 1853.
6. Ruth Grout b. Nov 24, 1780 m. Josiah Hart of Charlestown in 1812. He died in 1837 when she removed to Chatham, Canada and m. Judah Center.

7. Levi Grout b. July 4, 1784 m. Polly Nichols of Morristown, VT and had 3 children and was killed by the falling of a barn Oct 28, 1820.
8. Dan Grout b. March 6, 1786 m. Apr 4, 1811 Beulah Elmore dau of one of the first settlers of Elmore VT., had nine children and died Jan 22, 1841
9. Phila Grout b. Aug 20, 1788 m. Edwin Richmond of Morristown, VT had two children and died Oct. 8th 1811.
