Seth Putnam one of the proprietors under the N.H. Charter settled at Charlestown, NH abt the year 1750. He was from Salem (Essex County) MA subsequently chartered under the name of Danvers, MA. He had five children who either came with him or had prev. settled at Charlestown. They were: Ebenezer, Ruth, Seth, Thomas and Timothy Putnam. Seth Putnam, Jr. was the 1st of the settlers of Fort 4 killed by the Indians. Ebenezer Putnam was at Fort 4 as early as 1745. Ruth Putnam, who married Peter Labaree and Thomas and Timothy who came in 1750 or abt that year with their father, Seth Putnam Sr. Seth Putnam's wife was Ruth Putnam, but little is known of him or her other than the inscription on the stone erected to their memory reveals to us. This gives his death as having occurred Nov 30, 1775 and his age at 80 years and 6 mos. This would bring his birth the last of May, l695. On the stone is inscribed the following:
"The memory of the just is blest".

Mrs. Ruth Putnam died Feb 1, 1785 in her 93d year and that she was greatly beloved, the following inscription would indicate:

"Sweet Soul, we leave thee to thy rest
Till we shall meet thee above with Christ".
The following are their children and descendants:
