A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday August 27, 2006 at St. John’s Catholic Church for Marcelino “Japo” Guerra.  Marcelino passed away on August 21, 2006 at the family home surrounded by his daughter Tammy, and sons, Scott Sutherland, and Michael Peralta.  He was 79 years old.  A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 28, 2006 at St. John’s Catholic Church.  Interment will follow the service at South Park Cemetery.

            Marcelino was born on May 25, 1927 in Tularosa, NM to Alexandro Guerra and Margarita Gurule.  On August 1, 1971 he married the love of his life, Patsy Guevara Gonzales Peralta.  Both of his parents, his brothers, and his wife Patsy preceded him in death as well as his grandsons, Daniel Greg Peralta, and Lucas “Luke” Peralta.

            He worked at Furr’s Cafeteria, the Roswell Country Club and the Roswell JOY Center as a kitchen helper till he retired.  He enjoyed playing cards, doing yard work, Bingo, watching Boxing, wrestling, John Wayne movies, Spanish movies and old movies.  There wasn’t an old movie that he hasn’t seen and he could name all the actors in the movies.  He was a very quiet man, we never saw him upset or mad.  He took his days how God would give him.  He missed Patsy very much, as they were inseparable and was always helping people out by giving them food, clothing or advice.  He enjoyed being around his family, and attended St. John’s Catholic Church until ill health prevented him from attending.

            He is survived by his sons and daughters; Manuel G. Gonzales, David and wife Dora Gonzales and family Ted G. and wife Maria and family, Michael A. Peralta and boys, Michael Jr., Cory and James, grandsons he helped raise, Samuel and Marcelino “Macho” Peralta, Caroline G. and husband Raymond L. Silvas and family, Agnes Gonzales and family, Rachel Serna and family Becky Gonzales and family, Gloria Peralta and family, Tammy and husband Scott Sutherland and family also brother Alexandro Guerra and family from Hemet, CA, sister-in-law Mary G. Otero and family from Mesa, AZ and Missouri, Ruth Ann Gonzales; boys, Christopher and Armando Hernandez, 45 grandchildren, and 65 great-grandchildren, nephew Johnny and wife Louise Gamboa and family of Roswell.

            Pallbearers will be Raymond L. Silvas, Samuel Peralta, Marcelino “Macho” Peralta, Jesse Michael Contreras, Michael Peralta Jr. and Tony Peralta.  Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.

            The family would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Raes, and the nurses from Well Care and Vista Care.
