Albertson, Douglas and Aline By: Mrs. Aline May
Douglas and Aline Albertson came to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1938. Douglas was a contractor for El Paso Natural Gas. He built a home at Jal, New Mexico, but we lived here in Hobbs in a trailer home at 514 North Dal Paso, where Tooties Super Market is. Douglas helped build homes here in Hobbs. He also helped build Hobbs Football stadium. My mother-in-law, Lola Albertson, bought some land out on Dal Paso street and moved her home from Lamesa, Texas. The street today is know as Albertson Drive. Mrs. Albertson took care of an elderly lady at the Cooper Ranch in Monument, New Mexico for a year or so about 1949. At the time we lived here Douglas had a job offered to him in California to build ships; so he took it. I signed up to go into the Women’s Army Corp. We had two sons. One passed away when young. The other, Earnest Albertson, lives in Frankfurt, Germany, and works for Army Personnel. I was in the service seven years, was a nurse in 97th General Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany. I was overseas when Douglas’ dad passed away in 1947. I was divorced from Albertson in 1951 and met and married Charlie May. We lived in Lovington and worked at Lea General Hospital for a year. We left Lovington and went to Hope and Garland, Arkansas. I have a half-sister there. We came back to Hobbs in 1961. We bought this home from Willia Perry who works for Hobbs Gas Company. |
