
Hobbs Girl Killed in Car Wreck

A 17 year old girl was killed and four other persons injured Monday afternoon when an automobile went out of control one mile north of Hobbs on the Lovington Highway.
The car sheared off a highline pole, cutting off electricity from Lovington and Tatum for 25 minutes, and from Hobbs for a short period.
Martha Lee Duffield, daughter of Mrs. Martha Lee Callahan, lost her life. She was rushed to the Lea County Hospital but died shortly on arrival.
Stae Patrolman Jake Ramsey said he had filed a complaint of reckless driving against Gordon Wayne Wright, 17, of Eunice who was the driver of the death car.
Other injured were Virginia Mae Duffield, 14, Ruby Duffield, 10; and DavidDuffield 7, sisters and brothers of the dead girl.
