Lea County Families, Then and Now, Vol I, 1979

Agness Johnson, was born in Commanche County, Texas, the daughter of W.C. Johnson, born April 3, 1861, in Moorehead, Kentucky and Nancy Emma Pitcock, born April 13, 1879, Memphos, Tennessee. Agnes grew up on a farm in Mills Couny, Texas.
Edward Rufus Slocum was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Agnes Johnson and Edward Rufus Slocum were married in rownwood, Texas, May 2, 1944, Mr. Slocum first came to the oil fields of Lea County in the early 1930's and after a tour of duty in the Army in 1943 and early 1944, he returned to Hobbs, New Mexico to work as a rig builder for many years. He is now deceased.
There were two children from this marriage: Wilma Nancy Slocum, who works as a binder for the Superior Printing Company of Hobbs, New Mexico and Ronald Edward Slocum, a draguste of New Mexico State University. He is married and lived in Vernon, Texas with his wife and two children. He works for the Soil Conservation as an agricultural engineer.
