We have received a private letter from Rio Hondo, in Lincoln county, which confirms the news we published several days ago in relation to the Mescalero Apaches coming into Fort Stanton to go on the reservation. The writer states that the Indians were camped out waiting for transportation for their women and chldren, all their animals having been stolen by the Comanches, who were now unfriendly towards them because they were now unfriendly towards them because they were coming in to make peace. With the Indians at peace, the whole Rio Bonito country will be a paradise for ranchers. Source: Daily New Mexican, July 14, 1871- Transcribed by C. Anthony. Major Harry Whiting arrived last evening on the buckboard from Albuquerque. He informs us that he met the mail rider from Fort Stanton who reports that all the Mescalero Apaches had left the reservation on the Rio Bonito, and were now in the mountains; no suspicion was entertained that they intended such a movement, and no cause is assigned for such a step on their part.
