Raymond E. Duran
(1929 - 2008)
Retired firefighter
Raymond E. Duran, 78, passed away Monday, April 21, 2008, at his home in
Tularosa. He was born Aug. 13, 1929, in Tularosa to Eusebio T. and Felipa (Ramos) Duran.
Ramon was a retired firefighter at Holloman Air Force Base with the civil
service. He also volunteered his time to the Tularosa Fire Department. He loved
ranch work and after retirement, he worked helping Tom Ryan at the Hightower and
Champion farms. He was a member of St. Frances de Paula Catholic Church,
Caballero de Santa Cruz and also Mayordonos Santo Nino Atocha in Three Rivers.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Concepcion "Nena" Duran, of the family
home; sons Frank Duran, and Bennie Wooten and wife Sylvia; daughters Josie
Chavez and husband Matias, Gloria Sainz and husband Robert, Mary Guilez, and
Gina Kowatch and husband Louie; 17 grandchildren, Lawrence Chavez and wife Kim,
Steve Chavez and wife Liz, Frances Vigil and husband Jim John, Cindy Provencio
and husband Perfecto, Robert "Chonies" Sainz, Ray Sainz, Frankie Duran, Leighann
Duran and companion Sean O'Neal, Alex Duran and companion Anna Vigil, Annette
Guilez, Georgette Forbes and husband Tommy, Trisha Coney and husband Archie,
Nash Kowatch and companion Erica Walters, Max Duran Jr., Shana Duran, and Faith
Duran and companion Josh Cox; 32 great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; brothers Robert Duran and wife Eufrasia, Joe Duran
and wife Josephine, Ernest Duran and wife Debbie, and Billy Duran and wife
Carolina; sisters Consuelo Carrillo, of Tularosa, Lupe Torres, of Albuquerque,
and Susie Duran, of Las Cruces.
He was preceded in death by parents Eusebio and Felipa Duran; son Max Duran;
grandson Matthew Chavez; daughter-in-law Cindy Duran; brother Manuel Duran and
sister Jenny Garcia.
A rosary will be recited by Josie and Matias Chavez at 7 p.m. Thursday, April
24, 2008, at St. Frances de Paula Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2008, at
St. Frances de Paula Catholic Church with Father John Peterson, O.F.M.,
celebrant.
Interment will follow at the Three Rivers Cemetery.
Pallbearers include Lawrence Chavez, Steve Chavez, Alex Duran, Ray Sainz,
Frankie Duran, Nash Kowatch, Chonies Sainz, Junior Duran and Matias Chavez.
Honorary pallbearers are the Fire Department-West Area, Frutoso Marrujo, Jim
Baker, Bud Hightower, Arturo Arenas, Ben Misquez, Norval Bookout, Ralph Vigil,
Fred Utter, Albert Telles, Lucas Carrillo, Paz Bentacur and Louie Montoya.
Family will greet friends from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Alamogordo
Funeral Home Chapel.
