‘Grandma’ Bell’ Laid To Rest In Mayhill Cemetery
In an impressive ceremony at sundown last Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Mayhill Cemetery, Mrs. Sallie Ward (Grandma) Bell, was laid to eternal rest. Lay service was conducted by Cecil Barkley, of Mayhill, a nephew.
Mrs. Bell succumbed last Wednesday, after an illness of several months, during which her life had often been despaired of.
Sallie Ward Bell was born in Palo Pinto, Texas, on January 23, 1868. She was
married on December 8, 1886, to J. E. C. Bell, at Metcalf Gap, Palo Pinto, Texas.
Mr. Bell preceded her in death at High Rolls on October 17, 1931.
The deceased is survived by her two sons, Chas. M. Bell of High Rolls and Tom Bell, of Cox Well, near Orogrande; by one sister Mrs. W. C. Bates, of Carlsbad; by two brothers, Henry Bell of High Rolls, and Walter Bell of Tuscola, Texas; and by six grandchildren, Mrs. Inez Smith, Mrs. Evelyn Carpenter, Chas. Barkley Bell, Mrs. Neva Myers, Mrs. Tiny Haynie, Tommy Bell; and eleven great -grandchildren.
Mrs. Bell united with the Church of Christ in Taylor County, Texas in 1890.
Mr. And Mrs. Bell moved, with their sons, from Texas, to Mayhill, in 1897, and made their home there until removing to High Rolls in 1920. They were loved in both communities, as well as by a wide acquaintanceship throughout this county.
