W. Gage Is Stricken
William A. Gage, 94, a member of a prominent Otero County ranching family, died at Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital Dec. 24.
Gage was born Jan. 16, 1889 in Cooledge, Tex., and came to the Pinon area in 1902 with his parents, the late John F. And Evelyn Gage. He was married to the late Addie Gentry in 1917.
Gage had lived on his Pinon ranch since 1913.
He served as Otero County Commissioner from 1923 through 1926. He also served as a state representative in the New Mexico Legislature for several terms, the first beginning in 1927 and the last term ending in 1940.
He was one of the organizers of and has served on the board of the Otero County Hospital Association since its inception. He has served continuously and was board member emeritus of the Gerald Champion Memorial Hospital at the time of his death.
He served as a board member of the Otero County Electric Cooperative for 30 years and was a supervisor of the Otero County Soil and Water conservation District for 20 years.
He was a member of the Pinon Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, William F. Gage and John D. Gage, both of Pinon; a daughter, Mrs. Addie Withers of Alamogordo; three grandsons, Fred and Nick Gage of Pinon, and Herbert Gage of Alamogordo; two great grandsons, Gary and Ed Gage of Pinon; and a great granddaughter, Sara Gage of Pinon.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec, 28, at the Pinon Baptist Church at 1 p.m. Rev. Wayne Brazil and Rev. J. O. McCaleb will officiate. Interment in the Pinon Cemetery will follow.
Friends may visit at the Hamilton Funeral Home Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
