Attorney Elfego Baca, who was
called to Engle, N. M., Friday night to meet Antonio Ruiz. Martin
Ramirez and Pedro Ramirez, who are under arrest charged with
having murdered an aged prospector in northern Sierra county
almost a year ago, will return to Albuquerque this morning.
Mr. Baca wired his office
assistant, Manuel Vigil, yesterday, that he had accepted the
charge of defending the men and that he had arranged for a
preliminary hearing in Hillsboro, on Friday, October 4. His
message indicated that suspicion is so strong against them that
bail has been refused in each case.
Robert Martin, the well known
Sierra county cattleman, arrived in Albuquerque yesterday. Mr.
Martin knew few additional details of the alleged murder, but said
sentiment in the district seemed to hold the men under strong
suspicion of having been connected with the death of the unknown
man.
