"Sick List" Newspaper Items


Extract of a letter from Cumberland, New Jersey, dated 16th April 1824.

“Within the last four weeks great mortality has prevailed in Greenwich, in this county, and altogether with adults. The complaint, an inflammation of the brain. Seven of the victims were heads of families, among them Moses Shepperd, merchant. One family has suffered severely: John, Mark and Letten Ware, brothers died the same week, and two of them within an hour of each other; also at Bridgetown of a violent cold, after two week illness, Mrs. E. Lummis, wife of D. Lummis, and other daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Robert Smith of Pequea.”
