Kosciusko School
A free school for the instruction of African children has lately been formed in Newark under the above title. Why the name of Kosciusko was introduced is thus explained. That distinguished champion of civil liberty by his will, gave to Mr. Jefferson a fund, the available amount of which at this time, will be about 13,000 dollars to be employed in liberating enslaved Africans, and bestowing upon them such an education, “as, to use his own words, would make them better fathers, better mothers, better sons and better daughters.”
