New York County was one of the original
twelve counties of the Province of New York
in 1683. It was named
for the Duke of York
and Albany. It is coextensive with Manhattan
and New York City.

Bronx (The
Bronx),
Kings (Brooklyn),
New York (Manhattan),
Queens (Queens),
and
Richmond
(Staten Island) in 1874.
