Doctor Murdered in Church
Dr. James W. Markoe, of New York, was shot and instantly killed during the progress of services at St. George Church in that city Sunday. The assassin was Thomas W. Shelly, maniac and self-confessed bolshevist. Panic followed the killing, while the assassin, brandishing his weapon made for the nearest door, warning people to keep away. Meyer Advised His Wife to Kill Herself
New York, July 22 – District Attorney Nicoll has in his possession a letter written by Dr. Meyer, the alleged prisoner, to his wife, advising her to commit suicide. In the letter Meyer promised to commit suicide also. It is believed that Meyer wishes to induce his wife to commit suicide so that there would be no possibility of her turning state's evidence against him. The letter will be used at the trial. A Father’s Crime -- Isador Weber Shoots His Four-Year-Old Daughter and Then Suicides
New York, April 27 – Isadore Weber shot his four-year-old daughter, Josie, yesterday, killing her, and then killed himself with the same weapon, falling beside his child. Weber was a hard drinker. He used his wife Lilly, and she was obliged to turn him out of doors. Yesterday he returned and, finding Josie about to start for school, offered to accompany her there.
