About Auglaize County, Ohio

Auglaize County was formed on February 14, 1848. Some sources say it is a corruption of the French description of the clay (glaise) water (eau) while others say it comes from a Native American word meaning "fallen timbers"

The county was originally parts of Allen and Mercer Counties. Auglaize County is located in the western part of Ohio.

Its county seat is Wapakoneta, which is the largest city in the county.
