GOODWIN, Myron Arnold Age 93 of Hamilton passed away Monday, December 28, 2009 at Hospice of Hamilton. He was born December 22, 1916 in Camden, OH the son of George and Mae (Thrush) Goodwin. On July 2, 1977 Myron married Betty Jane Wagner in Hamilton, OH. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and was self-employed as a hairdresser until his retirement in 1986. Myron was a member of the NRA and Immanuel Baptist Church in Hamilton. He leaves behind his wife, Betty Goodwin; three step-children, a brother, a sister, 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Myron was preceded in death by his parents; 1 grandson; 4 brothers; and 1 sister. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Pastor Joe Tassell officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesday (Today) at the funeral home. Dec 30, 2009SNELLING, Allen L. John 68, of Wayne Township, died Monday, December 28, 2009, at Miami Valley Hospital. He was born in Middletown on December 18, 1941 to parents Claude and Estella Mae (Borders) Snelling Sr. John worked as an electrician for Armco Steel Corporation for 31 years, retiring in 1994 and then started Snelling Electric, Inc. He was a veteran of the National Guard. Mr. Snelling is survived by his wife, Linda K. (Sponsel) Snelling; two sons, five brothers, three sisters, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Thomas B. Snelling, Paul Snelling, Claude Snelling Jr., Rick Snelling and Donald Snelling; and sister, Eloise Snelling. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 10:00 am at Calvary Christian Center, State Route 127 & Jacksonburg Rd., with Pastor James Mullins officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 - 8:00 pm at WILSON-SCHRAMM-SPAULDING FUNERAL HOME, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 2808 Reading Rd., Cincinnati, OH.

Dec 30, 2009WILSON, Henry Clay age 89, of Monroe, passed away Monday, December 28, at his residence. He was born in Menifee County, Kentucky, July 19, 1920, the son of R.T. and Addie Wilson. He was a proud Army veteran of World War II, and worked for over 33 years at Armco Steel, retiring from the Maintenance Department. He also farmed on his property for many years. Mr. Wilson and his late wife, Mildred, taught clogging and square dancing to all ages, from elementary school through senior citizens. He joined the Middletown First Church of the Nazarene on January 10, 1932, and was its oldest living member. Survivors include a daughter, a son, five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren 2 sisters, and a brother. His wife of 63 years, Mildred D. Wilson, preceded him in death, as did a sister, Helen Pence. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 2, at the Middletown First Church of the Nazarene. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Friday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Monroe Cemetery, with military honors by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard.

Feb 18, 2010COBB, Larry Dean was born July 29,1957 in Middletown, OH to the late Inell and Lorene Cobb. On February 16, 2010 the angels were dispersed from Heaven to escort God's precious child home. He was 52 years old. Larry graduated from Middletown High School in 1975. He served in the Marine Corps and after his term he and his band toured world wide for the Department of Defense entertaining our troops.He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, five children, a stepdaughter, 3 grandchildren; two brothers, three sisters, mother-in-law; 4 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law; a aunt, uncle, and a host nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service will be Monday February 22, noon at Second Baptist Church 116 S. Verity Pkwy Rev. Enorris Thomas officiating. Visitation 11am until time of service. Interment Woodside Cemetery with military rites by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. Arrangements by Hall-Jordan & Pretty Memorial Chapel 918 S.Main St.

Feb 20, 2010OWENS JR., George H. Red age 80 of Hamilton passed away Thursday February 18, 2010 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dayton. He was born October 22, 1929 in Hamilton the son of the late George H. Owens, Sr. and Bertha (nee Philpot) Owens. Mr. Owens was a staff sergeant in the U. S. Air Force serving in the Korean War. He married Ruth Garnett on November 10, 1950 and she preceded him in death in 1986. Mr. Owens was a long time horse trainer in the harness racing industry. He is survived by seven children, 18 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one brother ;one sister , and his brother-in-law. Mr. Owens was also preceded in death by his siblings, Pat Beiser, Wade Owens, Reva (Delwin) Day, and Mittie (Oscar) Mullins. Visitation at THE WEBSTER FUNERAL HOME 3080 Homeward Way at Rt. 4, Fairfield, Monday February 22, 2010, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 PM, with Pastor Paul Tillett, officiating. Burial to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.

Feb 19, 2010PIGG, Everett H of Okeana, Ohio, was born on July 31, 1916 in East Bernstadt, Kentucky, the son of the late George H. and Melda J. (nee Estridge) Pigg. In Kentucky, he worked as a miner, teamster, and steam generator operator from 1929 to 1936. Everett moved to Hamilton, Ohio in 1936 with his first wife of 52 years, Margaret (nee Grady) Pigg and she preceded him in death. He worked at Champion Paper for 41 ½ years. In 1946, Everett and Margaret moved to Okeana, Ohio, where he lived on his farm for 64 years. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army in the Pacific Theater. Everett enjoyed his family, neighbors, friends, gardening, and storytelling about his early life growing up in Kentucky. He passed away February 18, 2010, leaving his second wife of 18 years, ; and three children:, seven grandchildren: six great grandchildren: six great great grandchildren: and 52 nieces and nephews. Everett was also preceded in death by his son: George J. Pigg; and seven sisters: Isabell, Martha, Rebeca, Eliza, Hallie, Sallie and Frona. Funeral services will be held at Webb Noonan Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South "D" Street, Hamilton, at 11am on Monday, February 22, 2010, with Pastor Joe Tassell officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2-5pm at the funeral home. Feb 27, 2010STREIFTHAU, Ernest E. age 89, passed away on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Hospice of Butler and Warren County. He was born January 20, 1921 in Middletown, OH to Ernest and Grace (Engle) Streifthau. He graduated Middletown High School and was a machine repairman for General Motor for 15 years, retiring in 1986. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald W. Streifthau. Ernest is survived by his wife of 69 years, two sons, two daughters, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 2, 2010 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Baker-Stevens-Parramore Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life service will follow on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery with the American Legion Combined Honor Guard services.

Dec 1, 2009SCHERZINGER, Harry J. 89, of Fort Wayne, IN passed peacefully November 28, 2009 at Heritage Park Assisted Living. Born in Hamilton, OH on July 8, 1920 to Leo and Elenora (Bauser) Scherzinger. He attended Hamilton High School, served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 and reached the rank of Mst. Sgt. He served in the Pacific Theater and Phillipine Liberation Army as a communications chief. He married Dorothea Huelsebusch on Dec 19, 1942 in Athens, GA. He was a member of VFW Post 1069 and St. John United Church of Christ. He worked for Borden Dairy and Meyer Dairy and for Tri-State Vending. He enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening and woodworking. He is survived by two daughters, a grandson, two great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, brothers; John and Leo and sister Ann Cantor. Funeral service is 10:30am Tuesday December 1, 2009 at Greenwood Cemetery Chapel 1602 Greenwood Ave, Hamilton, OH. Visitation 10:00 am until the service at cemetery chapel. Dec 5, 2009BOWLING, Robert E. age 77 of Hamilton passed away at Fort Hamilton Hospital on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 6:53 PM. He was born in Ashland, Kentucky on January 12, 1932 the son of James and Alma (Griffith) Bowling. Robert was a veteran of the Korean Conflict with the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1961. He was employed as a slitter operator at S.O.S. for 25 years. He was a member of the Princeton Pike Church of God, where he was active with the Golden Pikers and the Amazing Grace Choir. On December 15, 1970 in Jellico, Tennessee he married Grace Mills and she preceded him in death in 1999. He is survived by one brother, one sister, a devoted niece, who he and Grace raised; and her two children, and a number of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Jimmie Bowling and Delores Hutchinson. Funeral service will be held at the Princeton Pike Church of God, 6101 Princeton-Glendale Road, on Monday, December 7, 2009 at 2:00 PM with Pastor Ron Medley officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Dec 6, 2009DAVIDSON, JR., Charles D. age 74, of Middletown, Ohio passed away early Saturday morning, December 5, 2009 at his residence. He was born October 23, 1935 in Appalachia, Virginia. He attended Lee College in Tennessee and served in the U. S. Air Force. He worked as a road inspector for the State of Ohio for 5 years, and then retired in 1989 as a locomotive engineer at Armco Steel after 25 years of service. Charles loved his grandchildren and being active in their lives. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandfather and grandmother, Washington and Cora Kilgore; his parents, Charles and Reecie Davidson; and one brother, James Davidson. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, a daughter, a son, three grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 8, 2009 from 12 Noon to 2:00 p.m. at the Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Dan Flory officiating. Entombment will be at Woodside Cemetery Mausoleum, Middletown, Ohio with military services by the Middletown Combined Honor Guard. Mar 8, 2010BERRY, Robert Bob age 73 of Fairfield went home to be the Lord from his home on Saturday, March 6, 2010. He was born in Gray, Kentucky on September 9, 1936 the son of Samuel Jeffrey and Kate (Ray) Berry. On August 18, 1956 in Connersville, Indiana he married his wife. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force from 1956-1960. He was employed as a truck driver by Carolina Freight and Formica Products for numerous years, retiring in 1995. Bob enjoyed traveling, music, spending time with his family, and telling the "Good News", the gospel. Bob always preferred saying, "he belonged to God's Church". Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who is survived by his wife of 53 years, three children, ten grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters, nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Billy Owen; and brother, Billy Berry. Funeral service will be held at the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Ronald J. Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his caregiver, Cheryl Robinson for all her care and support.

Mar 9, 2010COOK, Thurl Keith was born on December 25, 1933 to Flossie (Lamb) and Dewey Cook in Braxton County, West Virginia. He attended Poca High School and in 1952 joined the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Following his years in service, he moved to Oxford, Ohio and was employed by Miami University in the remote power management department until his retirement in 2000. Thurl was proud of his West Virginia heritage and loved and appreciated the great outdoors. An avid fisherman, he often was seen with his fishing pole and tackle box, ready to spend time out on the lake surrounded by God's creation. In addition to fishing, he enjoyed many other sports and outside activities. His love of God and family defined him as a man. On March 5, 2010, Thurl went home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles Cook and Robert Cook, and step-son Christopher Bennett. He is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son three step-daughters, two grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, He is also survived by his brother and many other family members and friends. Thurl will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hoosier Uplands Hospice, College Corner United Methodist Church or the Paoli United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the Smith Ogle Funeral Home 5086 College Corner Pike Oxford, Ohio on Friday March 12, 2010 from 4-8 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service at the College Corner United Methodist Church 89 Church St. College Corner, Indiana on Saturday March 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Oct 24, 1895Middletown, O., Oct 23 - Noah Stubbs, president of the soldiers' relief commission, took ex-city Marshal Dick Hendrickson to the soldiers' home yesterday where he will spend the remainder of his days. His wife is in the poor house and his children in the children's home. He was marshal here for years and was a brave and capable officer. He went from power to poverty in a short time and for weeks has been sleeping in barns and outhouses worse than the meanest tramp he ever arrested for vagrancy. He served with distinction in the Thirteenth Ohio cavalry.

Death of a Venerable Minister
Rev. James Grimes, of Middletown, Butler co. Ohio, died on the 16th ult., aged 87. He was a Soldier of the Revolution from an early period of the War, taken prisoner at the surrender of Charleston, S. C., but escaped from sleeping sentinels, traveled long through wilds, over mountains and through swamps, to rejoin the American Army. He was afterwards engaged in the battles of Monmouth and Cowpens. He was for 57 years a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
