Died, at this home in Damascus township, near Grelton, O., Judson Emery, aged 74 years, 4 months and 19 days. He was born in the State of Maine, July 9th, 1820. His death oc-curred November 28, 1894. He was a pioneer citizen of Henry county, set-tling on the farm upon which he re-sided until his death, in the year 1847. He entered the land at the land office in Lima, Ohio. In the year 1848, he was married to Miss Lucinda Mead, who preceded him to the other shore on the 9th of April, 1892. He leaves two children, Mrs. O. P. Bogart, of Clyde, Mo., and Mrs. S. P. Murray, of Grelton, four grandchildren, several brothers and sisters and a large num-ber of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The community which has known him so long has lost a good citizen, a kind-hearted friend to the needy, and an honored and upright neighbor. “A friend in need, is a friend indeed”, could truly be said of him. The funeral services occurred Sunday afternoon, December 2nd, from the M. E. Church at Grelton, Rev. Cone, President of Buchtel College, Akron, Ohio, officiating. Interment took place at the Hoy cemetery, in Harrison township. The good deeds of our departed friend In memory ever will be green: His life so full of noble acts, Has surely made his record clean. Obituary Angelo Emery, son of Asa and Betsey Emery, was born in Montville,
Waldo Co., Maine, June 8th, 1838. While he was still a small boy his father
moved with his family to Ohio, leaving Maine Aug. 12, 1844. They first
settled in Seneca Co, but in a few years came to Henry county and settled in
Harrison township on what is now known as the Jacob Hoy farm, and here
Angelo grew to manhood. Dur-ing that terrible conflict between north
and south in those well remembered years, ’61 to ’65, he responded to
the first call for volunteers, and in his country’s service bravely wore
the blue for the entire four years. He went to Kansas in ’79, and
while living there he was a mem-ber of the G.A.R., and on his return to Ohio
first joined the Oscar P. Ran-dall Post, of Harrison township, and later the
Loraine Emery Post, of Ma-linta. Just before his last illness he was
elected Post Commander. He was married Nov. 1st, 1865, to Miss Elizabeth
Whitright, to them were born three children, two sons and one daughter.
He died Jan. 22nd, 1902, aged 63 years, 7 months and 14 days. He
leaves to mourn their loss a wife, three children, Dorr, Zuleika and Bert,
the latter living in Dakota, three grandchildren and two sisters besides
other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held Sat-urday, Jan.
25, at the M. E. church in Grelton, conducted by Rev. W. J. Dempster, of
Napoleon. The deceas-ed was a very highly esteemed citizen, and the
attendees to render him the last honors bestowed by living friends was
exceptionally large.
It smiteth low in every heart, We hear it each and all, A song of those who
answer not, However we may call.
‘Tis hard to take the burden up When these have laid it down; They
brighten all the joy of life, They soften every frown
But oh! ‘tis good to think of them When we are troubled sore; What e’er
betides Thy love abides-Our God forever more.
We desire to express our heartfelt thanks to neighbors and friends for their
kind assistance and sympathy during illness and death of our beloved husband
and father, and as we look up-on the beautiful floral offering we feel that
we are surrounded by friends in-deed, that have proved that they were a
friend in need. MRS. ELIZABETH EMERY AND CHILDREN. ________________
