Ward Township
The 2000 census
found 1,937 people in the township, 1,474 of whom lived in the
unincorporated portions of the township. It is the most easterly township
in Hocking County.

Fork Snow Fork, Lost Run, Little Monday Creek, Sand

- Carbon Hill is an unincorporated
community in central Ward Township. Although it is unincorporated, it
has a post office, with the zip code of 43111. State Route 278, located
on the western edge of Carbon Hill, is its main north-south
street.
- Murray City
, the smallest municipality in Hocking County, is
located in Ward Township. It is located on State Route 78 which
forms the main street. Murray City has a post office with the zip code
of 43144.
Murray City
was the birthplace of Henry Clifford "Doc" Carlson, a college men's
basketball coach from the University of Pittsburgh between 1922 and
1958.
- Buchtel is a village in Athens and
Hocking counties, just northeast of Nelsonville. Buchtel is located on
State Route 78 and has a post office with the zip code of 45716. A
former name for the village is Bessemer.
Buchtel is
locally known for a large local spring (nicknamed the "watering trough")
close to State Route 78. This spring emerges from an abandoned mine shaft
that has been dammed up. Many area residents get water at this spring.
