Mrs. Elizabeth Zook

Mrs. Elizabeth Zook Dies at 95

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Allgyer Zook died at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, in the West Liberty home she had occupied for the last 77 years. Mrs. Zook, who had long been ailing, was in critical condition the last five days, being unable to eat during that time. Born in Mattawana, PA, March 9, 1857, she was 95 years old at her death. Her husband, Joseph, died 23 years ago. Her parents were Joseph Allgyer and Barbara Zook Allgyer. Surviving her are a son, Alpha, of Butler, Ind., a daughter, Mrs. Amy Thoman, West Liberty, three grandsons, Paul Zook, Auburn, Ind., Richard and Joe Thoman, West Liberty. Other survivors are a granddaughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Mavis of Auburn, Ind., five great-grandchildren, and a brother, Rev. S.E. Allgyer, of West Liberty. Funeral Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Oak Grove Mennonite Church. Rev. Nelson Kanagy will officiate, assisted by Rev. Ray Eschelman. Burial will be in the Hooley Cemetery on Ludlow Road. Wilkins Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

PANSY MAE SECREST

Pansy Mae Secrest, 70, of Simmons Road, Frankfort, died of 6:00 AM Sunday, May 20, 1990, at her residence. She was born April 9, 1920 in Urbana, Ohio Elmer and Rosa Statin Evans. On May 10, 1938, she married Earl Secrest, who died July 19, 1965. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Maxine) Newman, Mrs. Mac (Janet) Lambert, Mrs. Bo of (Doris) Phillips, Columbus and Mrs. Juanita Dexter, Logan, Ohio. She was predeceased by one daughter, Hazel Estep; two brothers, Ralph and Carl Evans; and one sister, Helen Patrick. Mrs. Secrest was a retired nursing assistant for the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Chillicothe. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Fisher–Anderson- Ebright Funeral Home, Frankfort, with Rev.Elza Goodman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort. Friends may call 5 to 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. J. H. Baughman, 78, former resident died in Florida; services in Florida.

Mary E. O Rock, 68, of Lakeview, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 7, 2010, at Mary Rutan Hospital.

She was born Nov. 20, 1941, in Springfield, a daughter of the late Stanley and Josephine (Mosier) Jordan. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann Dysert; a sister, Rose Adkins; and a brother, Stanley Jordan.

Survivors include seven children, 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; five sisters, a brother, and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was an excellent cook who worked in many restaurants in the area, including Lakeview Restaurant. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and spending her time with family and friends.

The Rev. Michael Eckstein conducts a funeral at 10 a.m. today at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, where visitation is one hour prior to the service. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center. Memorial contributions may be made to a local organization of the donors choices. Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview.

Mike Householder, 62, of Bellefontaine, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.

He was born in Union City, Ind., on July 9, 1947, a son of Kenneth Householder, who preceded him in death, and Rosemary (Peltier) Householder, who survives in St. Marys.

Surviving are his wife, five children, three brothers, six grandchildren,another grandchild expected soon. Mike had worked for Dayton Walther/Arvin Meritor for 43 years as a vehicle test supervisor. He was an active member of the Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.He was a loving husband and father and was always full of life. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine, with a prayer service at 5:45 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus 1782. Father Patrick Sheridan officiates a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bellefontaine. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 328 E. Patterson Ave., Bellefontaine 43311.

Anderson, Mrs. Mayme - The body will remain in the Cantwell mortuary until 3 p.m. Saturday, then to be removed to the Kennedy funeral home in Bellefontaine. The body will remain at the Bellefontaine funeral home until requiem high mass at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick's Catholic church in Bellefontaine. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Mrs. Anderson's only survivor is a nephew, A. W. Cantwell, local funeral director.

Maxine M. Clark, 74, of Missouri Valley , Iowa , died at 9:35 a.m. July 14, 1993, in Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. She was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Council Bluffs , Iowa , to Robert and Hallie Sigler McTwiggan.
On Feb. 26, 1944, she married Carl H. Clark, who died on April 16, 1961. Mrs. Clark retired in 1976 as a bookkeeper with Federated Investors in Pittsburgh . She was a Navy veteran of World War II, in which she served as a nurse pharmacist's mate. She was a member of one of the first graduating classes at Great Lakes Naval Station, Great Lakes ,Ill.. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors include two sons, and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Huntsville Cemetery . The Rev. Russell D. Williams will officiate. There will be no visitation..

Mrs. Elizabeth Blue, 82, of Bellefontaine, formerly of Lima , died Monday in her home. She had worked at the Lima State Hospital for more than 20 years, retiring about 12 years ago.

Mrs. Blue served as matron of the nurses' home, a nurse and housekeeper during her service for the hospital. Her husband, J. P. Blue, died in 1931. For the past 12 years, Mrs. Blue resided with her daughter, Mrs. S. L. Miller, Bellefontaine.Other survivors include a son, C. L. Blue, 707 W. High-st; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. William H. Cross, Jackson Center; a brother, V. M. Woolley, Port Jefferson a half brother, Amos Wooley, Jackson Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Miller residence, with burial in Glen cemetery, Port Jefferson.

Kenton, Mar. 11 - Services for Mrs. Lula Shaffer, 81, of Belle Center, who died of Belle Center, who died in San Antonio hospital Thursday, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in Belle Center Methodist church. The Rev. Thomas Smith will officiate. 
An adopted daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Jefferson Williams, Belle Center, she married Simon P. Shaffer on Oct. 19, 1919. She was a member of the Methodist church. Surviving her are three step-sons, Ross and Mack of Belle Center and Albert of St. Louis, Mo. A brother, Frank Williams, of Detroit also survives.

Mrs. Gary (Marcia) Boberg of Delphos, Mrs. Frank (Pat) Boberg of Rt 2., Lakeview, Mrs. William (Connie) Brandel of Dayton, Jeanne, Janet and Virginia, all at home; four sons. Charles of Rt. 1, Lakeview, Steven of Rt. 1, Gary of Redford , Mich. , and Dennis, at home; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Cloyd (Rose) Winters of Elida: and a brother, Virgil Vaughn of Belle Center . Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Van Horn Funeral Home. Lakeview, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Bellefontaine, Dec 23 - Mrs. Myrtle Jacobs 50, wife of John, owner of Avondale, Indian Lake, died Sunday noon at the home of her mother here after a prolonged illness. She was born in Bellefontaine, Dec 29, 1884, daughter of  Joseph and Sarah Karas Costin. Funeral services will be held at St. Patricks' church here at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Until the services friends may call at the home of her mother, Mrs. J. E. Costin, 632 Cooper-st. Burial in Mt. Zion cemetery.


The Sidney Journal
Jan 13, 1871

William Plummer, a worthy citizen of Logan county, was killed by a falling tree on the 24 inst. He went to thewoods with his team, and commenced cutting down a tree. Seeing that the tree would fall upon his horses, he ran to remove then out of the way, but was caught by the tree in in its fall, and died in about an hour.
