CELINA, Jan. 7 — Funeral services will be held at the Pleasant View Church of God at 2 p. m. Sunday for Pvt. Glenn A. Piper of east of Celina who died  in a hospital in France Sept. 4, 1944, from wounds received while
serving on the Belgian front.

He was born July, 9, 1925, to Mr. and Mrs. Garnan Piper of Jefferson-tp and was 19 at the time of his death.

Surviving are the parents; two brothers, Walter and Robert, both of Celina; and three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Beougher, Mrs. Lola Staver and Betty Piper, all of Celina.

The Dick and Stallter funeral home has taken the body to the Piper residence. Dr. Tennyson Guyer will officiate at the services with the military rites in, charge of Celina post. American Legion. Burial will be made in North Grove cemetery.

Robert Lee Gardner, 79, 646 W. Fulton St., Celina died at 9:40 a.m. Dec. 15, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Celina to Albert Adolph and Elfreida Friemeiring Gardner. On June 15, 1957, he married Norma Jean Linn, who survives.
Other survivors are three sons, three daughters,  two sisters,  15 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Cletus and Tom Gardner; and a brother-in-law, Luke Borgert.
He had worked at the former Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, St. Marys, and was a dairy farmer. He also retired from driving buses for Celina City Schools. He attended St. John Lutheran Church, Celina. and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.), Celina, the Mercer County Harness Horseman Association, U.S. Trotting Association and the Mercer County Council on Aging. He graduated from the former Immaculate Conception High School in 1948, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Korean War.
Funeral services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, the Revs. Paul Baglein and Patrick Bayens officiating. Burial is at North Grove Cemetery, Celina, with military honors.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina, with V.F.W. membership services at 7 p.m., and 1 hour before services Saturday at the church.

Fred Bernard Stuehr, 87, died at 9:20 a.m. Dec. 19, 2009, at Celina Manor Nursing Home, Celina.

He will be cremated and the family will hold a private committal service in North Grove Cemetery at a later date. The Rev. Kim Miller will officiate.
Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Wilson E. Denney, 80, of Hamilton, formerly of Celina, died at 5:22 p.m. Dec. 27, 2009, at Hospice of Hamilton.

Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. today at Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home, Celina. The Rev. Richard Van Horn will officiate. Burial will be in North Grove Cemetery, Celina. Friends may call one hour prior to services today at the funeral home.

Mendon native Jack H. Lutz, 86, 8274 Bonanza Lane, Cincinnati, formerly of Lima, died at 9:45 a.m. Jan. 20, 2003, at his residence.
 He was born Jan. 3, 1917, in Mendon, to Fred C. and Lucy M. (Maurer) Lutz. On May 24, 1954, he married Kathryn Corcoran who died Sept. 22, 1969.
 Surviving are a son,  a brother, Dr. Gene (Mary) Lutz, of Lima; three sisters, Dorothy (Robert) Purdy, Berea, Carolyn (Arthur) Vittur, Port Orange, Fla., and Phyllis K’Meyer, Mogadore; and two grandchildren.
 One grandson is deceased.
 He retired as a mail carrier with the Lima Post Office after more than 37 years of service. A 1935 graduate of Neptune High School, he served with the U.S. Army’s 37th Infantry Division (Red Arrow) during World War II. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Elida, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1911, Lima.
 Services are 2 p.m. Friday at W.H. Dick & Sons Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Randy K’Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at Neptune Cemetery with military rites by Celina VFW Post 5713.
 Calling is after noon Friday at the funeral home.  Contributions can be made to Samaritan’s Purse.

Thomas Mescher, 58, South Sixth Street, Coldwater, died at 5:50 p.m. Jan. 20, 2003, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, Ind. Death was due to complications following heart transplant surgery.
 He was born Nov. 1, 1944, in Cincinnati, to Norbert and Virginia (Carlin) Mescher. On Dec. 2, 1967, he married Sarah Thomas who survives.
 Also surviving are a son,  four daughters, a brother, two sisters, and 12 grandchildren.
 He formerly worked at Minster Machine Co. and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. A member of Coldwater American Legion Post 470, he was past post commander, district commander and state officer and active in Buckeye Boys State program. He also was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1991, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5135 and a past member of the fire department, rescue squad and Fraternal Order of Eagles, all of Coldwater.
 Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater, with military rites by the Coldwater Legion.
 Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater. The Legion will have a prayer service there at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Ralph William Fry, 84, 21719 Wetzel Road, Fort Jennings, died at 10:22 p.m. Jan. 17, 2003, at Lincolnway Home, Ridge Township.
 He was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Delphos, to Glenn and Saloma (Bryan) Fry. On Nov. 11, 1977, he married Alice Rider Little Wallick and she survives at Lincolnway Home.
 Surviving are a brother, Ernest (Delores) of Sarasota, Fla., and a sister, Marcile Crosby, Toledo.
 He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran who served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Grace Church, Middle Point, Isaac American Legion Post 178, Van Wert, and Robert G. Longwell Post 5803, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
 Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mercer Cemetery.
 Calling is 3-6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eugene Harmon Davis, 87, 1108 Kingswood Court, Celina, died at 9:02 p.m. Jan. 15, 2003, at Colonial Nursing Center, Rockford.
 He was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Celina, to Rowland and Cora Etta (Siler) Davis. On March 22, 1941, he married Marjorie K. Seward who is deceased.
 Survivors are three brothers, Robert (Clara), Edward (JoAnn) and Armon (Virginia), all of Celina; a sister, Romola (Charles) Beougher, Rockford; and a sister-in-law, Ruth, St. Marys.
 Deceased are a brother, Kenneth, a sister, Zella Ruth Harter, and an infant brother, Russell.
 He was a member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Celina, and a member of the American Legion post #0178, Van Wert. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
 Services are 1 p.m. Saturday at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina, the Rev. Katie Hayes officiating. A military graveside burial will be held at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.  Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Paul H. Hausfeld, 82, 403 S. Market St., Coldwater, died Jan. 3, 2002, at Community Hospital, Coldwater.
 He was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Coldwater, to Edward and Mary (Neumeier) Hausfeld. On June 3, 1944, he married Elizabeth Gilliam and she died Sept. 8, 2000.
 Surviving are two sons,  a daughter,  two sisters,  and seven grandchildren.
 Deceased are five brothers, Ben, Louis, Linus, Adolph and James.
 He retired from the former Pet Milk Co. in Coldwater after 43 years of service. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Coldwater.
 Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Mannebach officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater.  Calling is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday and 9-10 a.m. Wednesday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater

Former Celina resident Gustov Klopfleisch Jr., 77, 2452 W. Kem Road, Marion, Ind., died Feb. 23, 2003, at Alterra Sterling House, Marion.
 He was born May 24, 1925, in Celina, to Gustave Sr. and Emma (Schaadt) Klopfleisch.
 Surviving are a son, two daughters, a brother, and five grandchildren.  Deceased are a half brother, Henry, and a sister, Elsie Hoenie.
 He had worked as a meat cutter at Producers Creamery & Locker Service and Gerenís Grocery in Celina. He also was a self-employed meat cutter for many years.
 A U.S. Army veteran, who served during World War II, he was a life member of the  Masonic Lodge, a member of the Eastern Star Alterian Club, a member and past commander of American Legion Post 210 and a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, all of Celina. He also was a member of the State Highway Patrol Auxiliary.
 Services are 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, the Rev. Douglas Meyer officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery, Celina.  Calling is 5-8 p.m. today at Lehman Funeral Home, Celina.  Contributions can be made to the St. Johns Organ Memorial Fund.

Richard Ray Beougher, 84, Celina, died Feb. 21, 2003, at 12:03 a.m. at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys. Death was due to natural causes.
 He was born Sept. 23, 1918 in Mercer County to Domer and Flossie (Barker) Beougher. On Jan. 3, 1942 he was married to  Celia Shimp, who survives.
 Also surviving are two sons, a daughter, a brother,  a sister, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
 Deceased are three brothers, Russell, Paul and Don and a sister, Belva Sutter.
 He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Army in Germany. He was retired from Beougher Farm Drainage and had worked as yard boss at Carter Lumber. He was a member of the Celina VFW Post 5713.  Services are Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. The Rev. Bruce Strine will officiate and burial will be in Swamp College Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-8 p.m.

D. Burl Zeisloft, 80, 3601 Ohio 703, Celina, died at 6:15 a.m. Feb. 7, at his son's home in Celina.
 He was born June 12, 1922, in Belmore, to Harry J. and Betha M. (Casteel) Zeisloft. In 1969 he married Alice Mae Thompson, who died Sept. 21, 1998.
 Survivors are three sons,  two daughters,  a step-son, a step-daughter, a sister,  and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 He was the owner of the Celina Dairy Queen for 40 years and was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5713, a member of Celina American Legion, and was a member of St. Paulís United Methodist Church in Celina.
 Services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Lehman Funeral Home in Celina, the Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow at North Grove Cemetery.  Calling is 3-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Contributions can be made to the church.

George W. Schuette, 83, 8103 Ohio 219, Celina, died at 9:30 p.m. Jan. 30, 2003, at his residence.
 He was born Oct. 17, 1919, in Cincinnati, to George H. and Clara Hilbert Schuette. On Oct. 25, 1941, he married Laverne George who died Nov. 22, 1972. On June 28, 1975, he married Joan Bruns who survives.
 Also surviving are two sons, a daughter,  two step-sons, eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
 He retired from Carl Subler Trucking, Versailles, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Montezuma and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Coldwater. He also was a member of the Legionís Uniform Group.
 Memorial Mass is 11 a.m. Monday at the church, the Rev. James Dugal officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Louis Cemetery, North Star.  Calling is 9-10:30 a.m. Monday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Coldwater.

Lester G. Buening, age 80, of Saint Henry, Ohio, died Tuesday, January 1, 2008 at The Gardens at St. Henry, Ohio. He was born June 25, 1927, in Coldwater, Ohio to the late Aloys and Leona (Huelskamp) Buening. He married Betty Lou (Ahlers) Buening on April 26, 1952 in St. Henry, Ohio and she survives. He is survived by two sons: a daughter, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, a brother, a sister, three  sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law.  He is preceded in death by a granddaughter, a brother Gerald; brothers-in-law Albert Buening and Joseph Ahlers and a sister-in-law Catherine Ahlers. He attended St. Henry Church and was a Veteran of the US Army serving in WWII, a member of the Coldwater V. F. W. Post 5135 and Fraternal Order of Eagles #3025 Coldwater, Ohio. He retired from the former New Idea plant in Coldwater after 42 years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Henry Church on Saturday, January 5, 2008 at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be at Hogenkamp Funeral Home - St. Henry on Friday, January 4, 2008 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday January 5, 2008 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Burial will be at St. Henry Cemetery, in St. Henry, Ohio. The Coldwater V.F.W. Post will conduct military rites at the cemetery. Cyril ( Cy ) Edwin Bertke age 90, formerly of Zillah St. in Celina passed away at 5:00p.m. on Wednesday Jan. 9, 2008 at the Otterbein Home in St. Marys. He was born on June 16, 1917 to the late Leo & Anna (Lindhaus) Bertke in Cassella, Ohio. On Oct. 4, 1949 he married his wife of 55 yrs, Dorothy E. Dahlinghaus, who died on Aug. 24, 2004. Survivors include a son, two daughters, 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, three brothers; and two sisters 
He was preceded in death by his brothers & sister-in-law Leander (Charlie) & Alvera Bertke, Dennis Bertke, sisters and brother-in-law Mary Ann Bertke, Marinus Bertke and Euleta & Werner Bensman. He went to St. Henry High School, he was in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during WWII and served in Africa and Italy. He was a Band Saw operator for 40 years at Mersman Brother in Celina, where he retired from in 1982. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Celina and the Holy Name Society of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a member of the Catholic Knights of America Council # 943 of Cassella. He was a member of the Celina V.F.W. Post #5713.

William “Bill” Waterman, age 66, of 102 Portland St. in Celina, passed away at 10:00a.m. on Monday January 14, 2008 at the St. Marys Living Center Nursing Home in St. Marys, Ohio. He was born on August 16, 1941 to the late Robert M. & Mildred ( Speck) Waterman in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Survivors include a son, step-son,  six grandchildren, a sister, 1st wife Janet (Koester) Goebel of St. Paris and 2nd wife Marge (Nobogradac) Waterman of Celina. He graduated from Celina High School and served in the U. S. Army.
He was Retired from International Harvester in Ft. Wayne, after 30 years and then sold Cars for Reineke - Mitchell Auto Sales. He was a member of the Rambling Roads Car Club.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30a.m. on Thursday Jan 17, 2008 at the Lehman-Hogenkamp-Dzendzel Funeral Home in Celina, with Rev. Robert Metheny officiating. Burial will follow in Swamp College Cemetery in Celina, with Military Honors by the Celina V.F.W. & the Celina American Legion. Friends may call from2-4p.m. & 6-8p.m. on Wednesday Jan 16, 2008 at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ft. Recovery, O - William F. Thompson, 65, veteran of the Civil war and a former blacksmith of this place is dead at the Soldiers' Home at Leavenworth. Kansas. The remains are expected here Thursday for burial. He leaves one brother James of this city and the following sisters, Mrs. Mary Abraham and Mrs. Ed Hoke of this place.

John Frederick Hasis, 82, died at 6:50 a.m. May 1, 2011, at The Laurels of Shane Hill, Rockford. He was born April 22,   1929, in Mercer County to Ralph and Mellie Lampy   Hasis, who preceded him in death. He married Ruth  Joan Thomas, who survives.  Mr. Hasis retired as a farmer. He was a lifelong member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War in Panama. He attended Mendon-Union High School. He was a member of American Legion Post 508 and Shanes Lodge 377 Free & Accepted Masons, both of Rockford.  Survivors also include three sons, Jeffery Hasis, of Van Wert, Bradley (Pamela) Hasis, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Steven Fought, of Toledo; two daughters, Linda (Bob) Tobias, of Van Wert, and Cathy (Dr. Michael) Ruhlen, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his loving dog, Buster.  Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Cisco Funeral Home, Celina. The Rev. Kenneth Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Tomlinson Cemetery, Rockford, with military rites. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.   Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Zion United Methodist Church.
