GROVER HILL - Earl G. Golliver,70,
of here, died it 4:10 a.m. Friday at his residence. Mr. Golliver was
born July 15, 1920. in Paulding County , the son of
Joseph A and Minnie Sherlock Golliver On April 12. 1944, he married Gae
Jones, who survives. Mr. Golliver retired in 1981 as postmaster of
Grover Hill. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he
was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Grover Hill Post
2873. Survivors also include one daughter, one son, one brother, and four grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday
at Zion United Methodist
Church, Grover Hill. Rev. Chris Farmer officiating Burial
will be in Little Auglaize Cemetery, Paulding County, where
military graveside services will be conducted by the VFW. Friends
may call after 1:30 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Den Herder
Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services at the church.

HAVILAND - Thomas George Myers,
80, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Van Wert County Inpatient Hospice Center in
Van Wert, OH.
He was born April 21, 1929 in Paulding County, the son of Lewis H. and
Wilhelminia C. (Gombert) Myers. On December 31, 1954, he married Janet Colleen
Keysor who survives.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, and four sons, two sisters,
and seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lewis and Maurice
Myers.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 20 at St.
Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, with Rev. Mike Harper. Calling will
be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St.
Paul Cemetery, Paulding.

PAULDING – Glen L.
Goeltzenleuchter, age 78, died Monday February 6, 2006, at the Convoy Care
Center, Convoy.
He was born March 27, 1927, in Paulding County, the son of Vern and Frannie (Bolinger)
Goeltzenleuchter. On Oct. 30, 1948, he married Myrtle E. Boroff, who preceded
him in death on June 23, 1985. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was employed by
General Motors, retiring in 1989, after 38 years. He was a member of Latty
Methodist Church, Moose Lodge #2094 of Defiance, Paulding Eagles Lodge #2405,
and the Paulding County Historical Society. He served as town marshall of Latty
and on the Paulding County Sheriff’s Department Reserves.
He is survived by a son, three daughters, 15 grandchildren; and 24
great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Bob, Morris, Bill,
John and Vincent; and a sister, Ruth Jewell.
Services were held Friday, Feb. 10, at the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding,
with Pastor Jim Edwards officiating. Burial was in Paulding Memorial Cemetery,
with military graveside services.
Donations maybe made to the American Cancer Society, PARC Lane Training Center
or First Baptist Church of Antwerp.

ANTWERP – Lawrence L. Cromley, 85, of Antwerp, passed away
Friday, May 5, 2006 in Coldwater, Mich.
He was born July 30, 1920, in Antwerp, the son of William J. and Lenora
(Leeth) Cromley. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII. On Oct. 17, 1943,
he married Helen L. Schmunk. She passed away March 31, 1985. He was
employed as a design analyst at International Harvester in Fort Wayne.
He was a member of Antwerp United Methodist Church, Antwerp
American Legion Post 253, VFW Post 5087, Coldwater Elks and was a Mason.
He also served on the Antwerp School Board, Antwerp Village Council and
park board.
He will be sadly missed by two sons, three daughters, 11
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His sisters, Iris Viancour,
Addie Wetli and Ethel Gaisford, and a granddaughter have passed away.
You are invited to participate in his funeral service at 11 a.m. today,
May 10, at Antwerp United Methodist Church with the Rev. Michael
Schneider officiating and military honors from VFW Post 5087.

PAULDING — Lloyd
“Bill” William Russell, 68, died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, May 8,
2002 at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born Sept. 6, 1933, in Toledo, the son of Lloyd A. and Edna M.
(Weber) Russell. In 1963, he married his wife, who survives. He was
currently employed as a supervisor for the Roeder Cartage Company for 16
years, and was formerly employed by the Schwermen Trucking company for
19 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Korean
Conflict.
Also surviving are two daughters, and five grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a sister, Virginia York.
Services were held Saturday, May 11, at Den Herder Funeral Home with the
Rev. David Meriwether officiating. Military rites were conducted by VFW
Post #587. Burial will be at a later date.

ANTWERP — Max R. Billman, 73, Antwerp, died Friday, June 21
at the Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne.
He was born April 21, 1929 in Antwerp, the son of Cecil and Thelma (Leaman)
Billman, both deceased. In 1951, he married Arlene (Clinton) Billman,
who survives. He was an insurance salesman for Prudential Insurance
Company for 20 years and worked at Dana Weatherhead, Antwerp. He was a
member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Antwerp, and was an Army veteran
of the Korean Conflict.
Also surviving are two sons, four daughters, one brother, and five
grandchildren.
Services were held Monday, June 24 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church
with Father Herman Scherger and Deacon Robert Nighswander officiating.
Burial was at the Maumee Cemetery in Antwerp with graveside military
honors by the VFW and Legion Posts. Arrangements were made by Dooley
Funeral Home, Antwerp.

Gilmore Cole, 83, died Friday, June 19, at Morton Plant Hospital in
Clearwater, Fla.
He was born Oct. 5, 1918 in Corydon, Ind., the son of Joe and Anna
Griswold. A 1937 graduate of Antwerp High School, he served in the
National Guard and in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He received a
commendation for services beyond the call of duty in the Navy. He
married Evelyn Seslar, who preceded him in death. He was retired from
the Peter Eckrich Company.
Surviving are two sons, a daughter, several grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Judith K. Fallis.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 20, at the Maumee
Cemetery in Antwerp with graveside military honors conducted by the
Antwerp VFW Post 587. Dooley Funeral Home is in charge of the
arrangements.

PAULDING —Frank
W. Shipman, 86, died at 10:50 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at Laurels in
Defiance.
He was born Sept. 26, 1915 in West Unity, the son of Francis and Jessie
(Keller) Shipman. In 1940, he married Mary M. Hockenberry, who preceded
him in death in 1993.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during WWII. He was a member of the
Paulding Police department from 1953-55, a deputy for the Paulding
County Sheriff’s Department from 1955-73, and a security guard for the
B.F. Goodrich Co. for eight years, retiring in 1981. He was a member of
the First Presbyterian Church in Paulding, and a member of the Payne
American Legion Post #297.
Surviving are two sons, six grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a sister, Vesta Hawkins; and a brother,
Carl Shipman.
Services were held Tuesday, July 30, at Den Herder Funeral Home in
Paulding. Burial was in Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding. Memorials are to
the Paulding County Area Visiting Nurse Association/Hospice.

Donald R. Starry, 65, of Antwerp, died at 9:20 pm, Thursday,
Jan. 14, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 29, 1944, in Antwerp, the son of Pearl (Hoover) and
Earl Starry, who both preceded him in death. He served in the U.S.
Army in Vietnam; was a member of Antwerp VFW Post 5087 and worked at
Uniroyal Goodrich, Woodburn.
Surviving are two sons, two daughters, a brother, one sister, 12
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Helen Oller; and a brother,
Harold. Services were held Monday, Jan. 18, at Dooley Funeral Home in
Antwerp.

PAULDING: Elmer W. Sprow, age 87, died Monday, Jan. 18 at The
Gardens of Paulding.
He was born June 15, 1922 in Paulding County, the son of Oscar and Anna
(Jacob) Sprow. On Dec. 12, 1947 he married Kathryn Anne Williamson, who
preceded him in death on May 5, 1991. He was the owner of Sprow Realty
and Motel, retiring in 1981; a WWII U.S. Navy veteran; and a life member
of Paulding VFW Post 587.
He is survived by a daughter, two sons, a brother, and a sister,
six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend.
He also was preceded in death by a son, Brock R. Sprow; three brothers,
Don, LaVon and Edward Sprow; and a sister, Delores Thomas.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at Den
Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. Ben Lowell officiating.
Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding, with military graveside

PAULDING – James Roy Leslie, age 78, died Tuesday, April 7,
at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.
He was born Sept. 29, 1930 in Paulding, the son of James J. “Pete”
and Mary E. (Elliott) Leslie. In 1953, he married his wife, who
survives. He was employed at the former General Portland Cement,
Paulding and was a boiler operator at BF Goodrich in Woodburn for 33
years, retiring in 1994. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of St.
Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, Widow’s Son Lodge Paulding
Chapter #165 Royal Arch Masons, and VFW Post #5087, Antwerp. Also
surviving are two sons, two sisters, and many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rex; and a
sister, Mary Hackbarth. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April
11 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, with the Rev. Stan
Sneeringer officiating. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding, where
military graveside rites were accorded by Paulding VFW Post #587. Den

PAULDING – Darwin D. Jewel, age 74, died Wednesday, April 15
at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born on Dec. 27, 1934 in Scott, the son of Irvin M. and M. Leota
(O’Day) Jewel. On May 4, 1985. he married his wife who survives. He
was a U.S. Army veteran, member of the Church of God in Van Wert, and
was employed by the Lafarge Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1996.
Also surviving are a daughter, a son, six step-children, 11
grandchildren; 20 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven
great-step-grandchildren; and three cats.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Irvin Jewel Jr.; and
two infant sisters.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 18, at Paulding Memorial
Cemetery with the Rev. Stan Sneeringer officiating. Paulding VFW Post
#587 accorded military graveside rites. Den Herder Funeral Home was in

PAULDING – Andrew D. Reinhart, age 26, died Saturday, April
18 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 12, 1982 in Defiance, the son of Denny and Sue (Bair)
Reinhart. He was a 2001 graduate of Bryan High School and attended Four
County Career Center. He was a U.S. Marine veteran serving in
“Operation Enduring Freedom” in Afghanistan and in “Operation
Iraqi Freedom” in Iraq from 2001-07, where he earned the Marine Corps
Good Conduct Medal; Combat Action Ribbon; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon
(3rd Award); Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal;
Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; National Defense Service
Medal; and Certificate of Commendation (Individual Award). He attended
the Family Christian Center in Defiance and was a member of the Paulding
VFW Post #587 and Paulding Eagles #2405. He is survived by his
parents, a sister, a niece, paternal grandparents, maternal
grandmother, and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles “Junior” Bair.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 24 at Den
Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. Tim Burden officiating.
Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood, with military graveside
rites conducted by Paulding VFW Post #587. Visitation will be from 4-8
p.m. Thursday, April 23 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to
services on Friday.

PAULDING — Albert “June” Zizelman, 80, died at 5:10 a.m.
Saturday, May 16, at the Gardens of Paulding.
He was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Mercer County Ohio, the son of Albert and
Thelma (Webb) Zizelman. On Oct. 10, 1954 he married Patricia J. Sommer,
who preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 2001. He was a U.S. Army veteran of
the Korean War and member of the Paulding VFW Post #587. He retired in
1992 as a plant supervisor from Stokely’s Canning Plant of Paulding,
following 47 years of service. He attended the First Christian Church of
Paulding. Surviving are two sons, two brothers, many grandchildren and
many great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, May 19, at the Den Herder
Funeral Home in Paulding. Burial was in the Paulding Memorial Cemetery,
where the Paulding VFW Post #587 conducted military rites. Memorials may

TUCSON, Ariz. – Ray N. Tinker, age 86, formerly of Paulding,
died Saturday, May 16 at the Love Care Assisted Living Center, Tucson.
He was born Dec. 31, 1922 in Ionia, Mo., the son of Thomas N. and Anna
M. (Parsons) Tinker. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World
War II. He was a member of VFW Post #4319, Ormond Beach, Fla., and was
employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years in Daytona Beach and
Ormond Beach. He is survived by his wife, 10 children, a brother, 30
grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren,
three great-great-great-grandchildren; and his extended family at the
Love Care Assisted Living Center.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nellie (Bunnell) MacGeorge
Tinker in 1995; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 22 at Den Herder Funeral Home,
Paulding, with the Rev. Timothy Hacker officiating. Burial was in
Paulding Memorial Cemetery, where Paulding VFW Post #587 accorded
graveside military rites. In lieu of flowers, the families suggest

PAULDING — Basil Porter, 90, died at noon
Tuesday, May 19, at the Dallas Lamb Foundation Home in Payne.
He was born June 16, 1918, in Kalida, the son of John and Fray (Aleshire)
Porter. On Dec. 7, 1943, he married his wife who survives in Oakwood. He
was a U.S. WWII Army veteran and was a farmer. He was a member of the
former Odd Fellows Lodge in Oakwood and a life member of the Oakwood
American Legion.
He is also survived by two sons, two brothers, a sister, five
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death
were three brothers, DeLoy, Nolan and Richard Porter; and two sisters,
Lucille DeCamp and LaDean Porter.
Services were held Friday, May 22, at Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Oakwood,
with Pastor Terry Porter officiating. Burial was in the Little Auglaize
Cemetery in Melrose with military rites conducted by the Oakwood
American Legion. Preferred memorials are to the Dallas Lamb Foundation

HICKSVILLE – John Joseph Meyer, 76, of Hicksville, passed
away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 26 at his residence.
He was born March 10, 1933 in Antwerp, the son of John and Regina
(Kenner) Meyer. On Aug. 7, 1954, he married his wife, who survives. He
served in the U.S. Army Reserve, was a heavy equipment operator at
Lafarge, a member of Saint Michael’s Catholic Church Hicksville, and a
3rd & 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Also surviving are six daughters, two sons, three sisters, a brother, 21
grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five
great-step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian Burial was
celebrated on Friday, May 29, at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church,
Hicksville, with Father Thomas Oedy officiating. Burial was in Maumee
Cemetery, Antwerp. Dooley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

PAYNE — David N. Diehl, 64, of rural Payne,
died Monday morning, June 29, at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 27, 1944 in Decatur, Ind., the son of Lester R. and
Virginia J. (Smith) Diehl, who both preceded him in death. On July 16,
1977, he married his wife who survives in Payne. He was a member of
Divine Mercy Catholic Church in Payne (formerly St. John the Baptist).
He was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1969
and was retired from International Harvester. He was a champion go-cart
and motorcycle racer across Ohio and Indiana as a teenager. Later in
life, he loved working in his garage fixing and rebuilding cars,
motorcycles and minibikes.
Also surviving are four daughters, one granddaughter, and
two sisters, He was also preceded in death by his step-father,
Oran A. Watts; two half-sisters; and a half-brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 3 at St. Mary of the
Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur with Father Ben Kakwezi
officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur with
military gravesite rites conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color
Guard. Haggard & Sefton Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.

A.C.C.F. Angel Cancer Fund.

PAULDING – Robert Earl Foltz, age 74, died at 6:25 a.m.
Friday, July 10, at Paulding County Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1935 in Broughton, the son of Earl L. and Naomi M.
(Stair) Foltz. On Dec. 30, 1956, he married his wife who survives. He
retired from GM Powertrain of Defiance in 1991 as a core-inspector after
38 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He attended the First
Christian Church of Paulding. He was a member of UAW #211, Paulding VFW
Post #587 and Paulding Eagles #2405, and he was an avid horseman and
fisherman.
Also surviving are one daughter, Angela (Mick) Coak of Paulding; two
sons, one brother, six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald; and his
faithful dog “Mike.”
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 14 at the First Christian
Church in Paulding with the Rev. Gregory Bibler officiating. Burial was
in St. Paul Cemetery, where Paulding VFW Post #587 conducted military
graveside rites. Den Herder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

PAYNE — John Henschen, 81, of Payne, died at 5:40 a.m.
Tuesday, July 14, at the Paulding County Hospital.
He was born Sept. 5, 1927, in Payne, the son of Otto and Cecile (Lamb)
Henschen. He graduated from Payne High School and attended Ohio State
University, where he played second trumpet in the marching band. He was
a veteran of the Korean War, serving in Japan. On Jan 28, 1954, he
married his wife of 55 years, who survives. He retired from
International Harvester, Fort Wayne and TGS, Antwerp.
He was a member of Payne Volunteer Fire Department for 15-1/2 years, a
50-year member of Flat Rock Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post #297 in
Paulding, VFW Post #587, and former member of Payne Village Council.
Also surviving are three daughters, a son, two granddaughters,
five step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Graham.
Services were held Friday, July 17, at the St. James Lutheran Church, in
Payne with the Rev. Joseph Allen officiating. Burial was in the Wiltsie
Cemetery, Payne, with military honors. Dooley Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.

He was born on Dec. 19, 1935 in Paulding County, the son of Lester C.
and Helen Mary (Yearling) Baker. His wife survives. He attended
Spring Harvest Church, Van Wert. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving
during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a truck driver. He was a
member of VFW Post #587; FOE #2405; and the Paulding Fish and Game Club.
He was an avid hunter.
Also surviving are two sons, four daughters, a sister, 12 grandchildren;
and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Russell; and two
brothers, Richard and Homer.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, Aug. 7 at the Den Herder Funeral
Home, Paulding, with Pastor Dale Bolenbaugh officiating. Burial was in
Cooper Cemetery, Paulding, with military graveside services accorded by

Friday, Sept. 4 at his residence.
He was born May 15, 1929 in Paulding County, the son of John and
Gertrude (Gantt) Rhoad. Gene and his eight siblings grew up on a farm
located south of Paulding in Blue Creek Township. He graduated from
Latty High School in 1947 and was an Army veteran serving during the
Korean War. On Dec. 18, 1971, he married his wife who survives. Gene was
a self-employed farmer all of his life and was a member of the Country
Chapel United Methodist Church, Haviland and the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge
#580.
Also surviving are one daughter, two step-daughters; six grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Floyd, Kenneth, Arlo
and Doyle; and three sisters, Arlene Tyas, Donna Wilson and Enid
Learned.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 9 at the Den Herder
Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. Ron Johnson officiating. Burial
will be in Blue Creek Cemetery, where the Paulding VFW Post #587 will
accord military graveside rites.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services today.
Preferred memorials are to the Country Chapel United Methodist Church,
Haviland.

PAULDING — Donald DeWayne Shafer, 72, died Thursday, Sept. 3
at The Gardens of Paulding.
He was born Aug. 3, 1937 in Paulding County, the son of Albert T. and
Ruth (DeLaney) Shafer. On Dec. 21, 1962 he married his wife, who
survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean
Conflict. He was employed by Johns Manville, where he retired in 2002.
He attended the Dupont Church of the Brethren in Dupont and was a member
of AMVETs of Defiance. He was an avid wood worker and gardener.
Also surviving are a son, a daughter, one brother, and three
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Randy.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 8 at Den Herder Funeral Home,
Paulding, with the Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial was in Sherman
Cemetery, Oakwood, with military graveside rites conducted by Paulding
VFW Post #587.

PORT RICHEY, Fla. – Mel F. Ross, age 86, died July 19. He
was an avid golfer, perpetual jokester and celebrated storyteller.
He was born Dec. 19, 1922 in Marianna, Pa., the son of Antonio and Mary
Josephine Rossi.
He was a WWII Army veteran. Mel resided in Dayton for 60 years, enjoying
a career with Equitable Life Insurance and being inducted into the
Equitable Hall of Fame and the Million Dollar Round Table. He moved to
Port Richie in 1990. His warm smile, hearty laugh and pervasive optimism
will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, two daughters, and two honorary
daughters, and special pals, Fang and Boss.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at
St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding, with the Rev. Greg Bibler officiating. Den
Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, is in charge of arrangements.

PAULDING – Brother Willis Eugene Stoller, age 77, passed
away Friday, Sept. 25, surrounded by his family.
He was born Feb. 2, 1932 in Paulding, the son of Herbert and Leah (Laukhuf)
Stoller. In 1954, he married Ellen Fiechter, who preceded him in death
in November 1988. On Jan. 14, 1990 he married Elaine Norr, who survives.
He was a member of the Latty Apostolic Christian Church where he taught
Sunday school for 16 years, served as a trustee, was on the building
board for the fellowship hall and served on the World Relief Board. He
was a self-employed farmer, a U.S. Army veteran serving during the
Korean Conflict and a trustee for Dallas Lamb Foundation Home. For many
years, he served as a Paulding Township trustee and as a Paulding County
commissioner. He was a wonderful husband, dad and grandpa and cared
deeply for his family and friends. Also surviving are a son, two
daughters eight grandchildren; two brothers, three sisters,
and a sister-in-law.
He also was preceded in death by a brother, Nelson Stoller; and two
brothers-in-law, Jim Williams and Howard Wieland.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 28 at Latty Apostolic Christian
Church. Den Herder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers and throws, the family requests donations be given to
Paulding County Hospital Home Health Nurses or The Gardens of Paulding
Nursing Home.
