Anthony & Catherine Zahm:

Witnesses to Divorce Decree:

 (Submitted by Carol McKenzie)

Catherine Zahm had a child by Mr. Zahm which she exposed by putting it in a tub of cold water and keeping it here until it was blue and chilled.  It was afterwards taken sick and the physician said the bowels were so chilled that it was doubtful whether it would ever recover.  The child died of the illness.  By Mary Agnes Zahm

One day I was  dressing a wound for Anthony that Catherine had given him by throwing a bowl at him.  The door suddenly opened and when I looked  Mrs. Zahm was standing in the doorway and exclaimed, “Now you  whore I have caught you.” And called me all the other hard names.  About ten that night Mrs. Zahm came to the window and knocked and said to Mr. Zahm, come out of that whore house and if he did not come out she would burn down his house and shop.   Mrs Agnes Zahm

One evening I was at Mr. Zahm”s house and we were conversing about the old country and Mrs. Zahm said she would rather have the meanest Yankee in the world that the greatest gentleman from the old country.  (Mr. Zahm was from the old country).  She neglected her duties as a wife and abused his little boy very much.  I examined the little boy, I found his back black and blue, he said it was caused by her beating him a week before with a stick almost as thick as your fist, a man who was passing by came in and stopped her.       Mary Agnes Zahm

More Notes:  from Carol McKenzie

1850 census an Anthony was living next door to Jacob Mansuet Zahm.  I believe this is the one it was.  I also think this Anthony could be the same Anthony who married my Catherine Zahm, dau of Anthony.  (too many names alike, gets confusing)
