William Blair, aged
ninety-one years, died at Stryker, on the 2d inst. Mr. B. was a veteran
of 1812. He was the last survivor of the marines who fought under
Commodore Perry. In 1813, the Governor of Pennsylvania awarded him a
silver medal for gallentry displayed at the naval battle which resulted
in "Perry's Victory." This medal was proudly cherished by the gallant
veteran and constitutes a valuable heir-loom to his descendants. His
remains were conveyed to Mansfield, Ohio, for interment, and placed
beside those of his wife, who died several years ago. That his
remains should be placed beside hers was the dying request of the old
soldier, and exhibits a beautiful instance of the constancy of
affection, reaching on through life, as it did, almost to the full and
rounded period of a century.

was extremely generous in caring for others and supporting numerous
charities. Her passion was for travel and she was always game for a
trip. Consequently half of her ashes will be scattered in some of her
favorite destinations, the remainder to be buried with her family in
Bellville, OH. Although she chose not to have any services, a
celebration of her life is being planned for a future date.
Contributions may be offered in her name to Kobacker House Hospice or

that she touched and her love, kindness, sense of humor, and generous
spirit will live on in our hearts. A special thanks to all of you who

MAN THIRD TO DIE OF TYPHOID
Bellville Resident Succumbs at Hospital; Two New Cases Reported.
Typhoid fever took its third victim in this area
today with the death of Ralph Clever,
41, of Bellville, while two new cases were reported in the city since
yesterday noon, raising the total for the epidemic to 145.
Mr. Clever, one of the first to become ill with the
disease, died at 5:45 a.m. today in General hospital, where he was
taken several weeks ago.
His illness was diagnosed as typhoid about four
weeks ago, and his condition was weakened in the past week by
complications, it was reported. While his case was not definitely
traced to Mansfield, it was believed he contracted the disease by
ingestion of water here.
The other two deaths from typhoid during the current
out-break occurred in Mansfield and Galion.
The third victim is the brother of Vance Clever,
service manager of the Richland County Farm Bureau, and Mrs. Tracy
Congwer, both of Mansfield.
He is also the father of four children, Robert,
Howard, Geraldine and Virginia. Other survivors are his widow, his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clever, of Lexington, and another brother,
Harry Clever, also of Lexington.
The body was removed to the A. A. Shaffer funeral
home at Bellville this morning. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.
Thursday, at the Bellville Lutheran church. Burial will be in the
Bellville cemetery.
After a five-day period when no new cases were
reported, three new cases have been reported in the past 48 hours, with
two of these developing since noon yesterday, Dr. M. C. Hanson, public
health commissioner, disclosed.
The new cases are Mrs. Irene Bricker, rear 83 West
Fourth street, and Mrs. Ida L. Nye, 42 West Augustine avenue.
It has not been determined whether the new cases
were attributable to ingestion of contaminated water believed to have
been the cause of the majority of cases in the outbreak, or whether
there was another source of infection.
