Van H. Johnson, 57, of 309 N. Race St. died at his residence. He had been in failing health for two years, but death was unexpected. The Van Wert Fire Department's Emergency Unit was called to the home and administered closed heart massage and oxygen. born Dec. 18, 1913, in High Point, N. C., Mr. Johnson was the son of Huston and Rose (Jones) Johnson. Survivors include his widow, Dolores (Poole) Johnson; a son, Gary of Tiffin; five step-children,  Mrs. Dennis (Virginia) Chamberlain, Miss Alice Kae Brothers and James Brothers, all of Mansfield and William Brothers, at home; two brothers, Fred and Bobbie Johnson of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Naomi) Stachovick of Marshfield, Wis., and Mrs. Pearl Hornday of Mount Airy, N. C. Mr. Johnson was a chef at Colonial Restaurant until his illness. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Alspach Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Sherwood officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery.

Obit: My great great grandfather MICHAEL REDMOND, born in 1792, and his large family were censused in Seneca County, Ohio in 1840. He and they had immigrated to the US a few years before that from somewhere in County Wexford, Ireland. He was a farmer. By 1850, he and they had moved to Shields Township in Lake County, Illinois when and where he was able to purchase a fairly large farm. He passed away in 1872 and is interred with his wife, the former Catherine Sutton, at the St. Patrick Cemetery in Emmet, Illinois, just outside of the town of Lake forest.

 

Claude D. Highlander, 62, of Attica ; died on Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 at his home. He was born on Sept. 3, 1944 , in Wiona , W.Va. , to the late Deward and Erma Florence (Ashley) Highlander. He graduated from the Nuttall High School in West Virginia. Mr. Highlander had been a journeyman/pressman at the RR Donneley in Williard prior to November 2005. He had been in the Marine/Army Reserves .

Survivors for Mr. Highlander include his wife, Jane (Sanders) Highlander, whom he married Nov. 20, 1969; a son, Chad Highlander of Attica; and a daughter, Amy Williams (Mark) of Attica; three grandchildren, Chloe Highlander, Katy and Shane Williams; three brothers, John A. (MaryAnn) Highlander of Castalia, Bobby (Bessie) Highlander of Sandusky, and Eugene (Betty) Highlander of Waynesville, Ohio; and a sister, Zelma Tolley (Larry), Sandusky. He was preceded by five brothers, Vermond, Duane, Lloyd, Ray and C. Dale Highlander, and a sister, Wanda Highlander. Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 , from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St. , Bellevue .The funeral will be on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 , at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Yuri Kuzara and Brother Gabriel Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Reed Cemetery. Memorials May be made to Sorrowful Mother Shrine or Community Hospice of Tiffin.

Mrs. Catherine Watts Hatt died in Toledo Hospital Sunday. She had been a resident of Toledo 40 years and lived in 1567 West Central Ave.

Mrs. Hatt is survived by her husband Henry and a sister, Mrs. Marie Neuman.

Services will be in Rafter Funeral Home at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday and at 8 in St. Ann's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Tiffin, O.

Obit: Archie LeRoy Crow, 42, passed away at the residence, 310 W. Jackson Street, at 5:15 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 1943. Death was due to complications, the deceased having been in ill health for the past eight months.
Mr. Crow was born in this city June 27, 1900, the son of Alvin and Matilda Crow making his age at death 42 years, six months and 20 days.
He was united in marriage in Hardin County,McGuffey, Ohio, to Miss Bessie Mae Smith who survives along with a son Duane; daughter, Janet; sister, Alta; four brothers, Forest and Otto, Columbus; Bert, Toledo; and Obed, West Independence. Fourteen nephews and nieces also survive.
Services will be held from the Harrold Funeral Home Tuesday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Claude G. Powers, officiating. Interment will be in Fountain cemetery, Fostoria.
The body was taken to the residence where friends may call.

Obit: Alvin B. Crow, one of the oldest barbers in the city, passed away at 11:15 this morning at his home, April 5, 1929, 310 West Jackson street. Death was due to complications and followed an illness of one year.
The deceased was a son of Rev. and Mrs. Levi Crow and was born at Cygnet, OH, June 5, 1854. His age at death was 74 years, ten months and one day. He was united in marriage to Matilda Tharp in 1878. To this union 11 children were born, seven of whom survive.
The children are: Alvin B. Crow of Toledo, Miss Alta Crow at home, Obed E. Crow of Washington Township, Hancock Co, Ohio, Otto W., Forest W. Archie L., all of Fostoria and Mrs. Thomas (Lizzie) Winters of Bowden, Oklahoma. There are 12 grandchildren and one great grand child.
Mr. Crow had been a barber in Fostoria for the past 50 years. He was a member of the Evangelical Church, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Mr. Kern. Burial in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria, OH.

Obit: Charles Vernon Crow, 18 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Crow, died at the family residence at 310 Jackson Street at 9:15, December 3, 1915. Death came as a relief to four weeks' suffering with an abcess, through which illness the young man has been the same cheerful person that made him a favorite among the associates of his everyday life.
Charles Vernon Crow was born at Mark Center, Defiance county on August 18, 1898, making his exact age 17 years, 3 months and 15 days. An attack of infantile paralysis at the age of two years, left the deceased a cripple and unable to make use of one limb. Shortly after this illness he came with his parents to this city where he has been a resident, since that time.
Mr. Crow had been employed by the Deisel-Wemmer Company since the opening of the plant here and until the time of his illness was constantly employed there. He is spoken of very highly by his many friends and considered a young man of promise in spite of his crippled condition.
Mr. Crow is survived by both his father and mother also by five brothers and two sisters, the brothers are, Bert of Findlay, Obed of Vanlue, Otto , of Fostoria, Forest and Archie of this city. The sisters are: Mrs. Alta Evans of Fostoria and Mrs. Lizzie Winters of Bowden, Okla.
Funeral services will be held at the Evangelical church, Rev. Link officiating Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will take place in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Obit: Mrs. Bessie May Crow, 48, 310 West Jackson Street, died at the residence, Saturday, February 18, 1956, of a stroke. She had been in ill health eight months.
She was born in Marengo, Ohio, June 16, 1907, to Samuel and Lucy Smith and was married to Archie Crow at McGuffey, Ohio, December 24, 1926.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet Crow, Fostoria, her father, Samuel Smith, Findlay, two sisters, Mabel Smith, Findlay, Madeline Smith, Columbus; four brothers, Milo and Lawrence Smith, both of Findlay, Clarence Smith, Fostoria and Hubert Smith, Perry, Fla.
Her husband and a son, Duane preceded her in death.
Mrs. Crow was a member of the Bethel Evangelical United Brethern church.
Services will be held Tuesday, 2 p.m., at the Harrold Funeral Home, the Rev. Roy. L. Sutherland officiating. Casket bearers were; Russell Groves, Melvin Jay, Fred Lombardy, Forest Hargis, Chester Wonders, Henry Stoll, Edward E. Crow and Hugh L. Riddle. Burial will be in Fountain Cemetery, Fostoria.

Obit: Mrs. Matilda Jane Crow, 83, widow of the late A. B. Crow, passed away at her home 310 West Jackson Street at 6:30 last evening. She had been ill with a complication of diseases and had been bedfast for the past week.
The deceased was born March 30, 1857, near Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Obed Tharp. Her age at death was 83 years, 9 months and 13 days. She was the youngest daughter in a family of seven children. When she was 2 years of age she moved with her parents to, Mark Center, Ohio. She had been a resident of Fostoria for 42 years.
Matilda Jane Tharp was united in marriage to Alvin B. Crow at Mark Center in 1876. To this union eleven children were born. Mr. Crow, a pioneer barber in Fostoria, passed away in 1929. Five children also precede Mrs. Crow in death.
Mrs. Crow is survived by five sons, Bert of Toledo, Forest and Otto of Columbus; Archie of Fostoria; and Obed of West Independence; one daughter, Miss Alta Crow, of Fostoria; sixteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren  and three nieces, Mrs. Sylvia Hettinger of Manitou Beach, Michigan, Mrs. Francis Harper of Portland, Oregon and Mrs. Ethel LeRot of Edgerton, Ohio.
The deceased was a member of Bethel Evangelical church for more than 30 years and was an active member of the Faithful class and the Missionary Society of that church.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Friday at the Bethel Evangelical church with the pastor, the Rev. Harry Deeds, officiating. Burial will be made in Fountain Cemetery. The body was removed to the residence from Mann's this afternoon.

Obit:     ATTICA, O., July 16 - Alvin Aichholz, 78, a retired farmer, died last night in a Green Springs nursing home. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
    He is survived by sons, Gilbert and Eugene, both of Attica; daughters, Evelyn Aichoolz and Mrs. Paul Mechling, both of Columbus; Maonena Aichholz, Dayton, and Mrs. Robert Ault, Urbana, O.; brother, Herman; sister, Mrs. Clara Marquart, both of New Washington, O., and six grandchildren. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the church with burial in the parish cemetery.
