Volunteers Dedicated to Free Genealogy

This Site is Available for Adoption

Our goal is to help you track your ancestors through time by transcribing historical and
genealogical data for our websites.

ALL DATA ON THIS SITE IS FREE TO VIEW.

Your data contributions, feedback and comments are welcome.
If you have data that you would like to have posted on this website, please contact us.

Interested in Helping Us?

We need volunteers who are dedicated to putting data online and who are interested in helping
these websites be the best they can be for researchers. If you want to host an available county site,
please see the Volunteer Page for further information and then contact Kim.
[A desire to transcribe data and knowledge of how to make a basic webpage are required.]

If you'd like to help transcribe data, read about our Transcription Team

County Data

County Origins

Most of Summit County was originally part of the Western Reserve, territory claimed by the Colony of Connecticut and later
succeeded to the United States as part of the Northwest Territory. It was established March 3, 1840 by taking townships
from Stark, Medina and Portage Counties, and was so named because it was located at Portage Summit, the highest point
along the Ohio-Erie Canal. The county seat is Akron.
