Mrs. Willia Swinderman and her 13 year old son escaped death by a fraction of an inch Wednesday when shots by a hunter in the rear of their home grazed the boy’s hand and passed through Mrs. Swinderman’s hair, badly burning it. Mrs. Swinderman is suffering from nervous collapse.

Workman Killed in Plant Blast
Dover, O., May 5--One workman was killed and seven were
injured in an
explosion which wrecked the Hardesty Chemical Company's plant yesterday. Two were burned seriously and five more had minor
injuries.
The firm makes cosmetics and products for use in
plastic goods. The cause, and the amount of damage will not be
established until after
several days of investigation, Walter Sommers, plant superintendent, said.
Unofficial estimates of the material loss were about $100,000.

John Funston who shot the mail carrier last September in Ohio was hung
at New Philadelphia on the 30th ult. He made a full confession of his
guilt. He was born in Northumberland county in this state and only 22

John David (Dave) Keener
Soldier Injured in Blast Home on Leave
Because of a freak accident caused by blasting near his
army tent, Pvt. John Keener, who is stationed at Camp Hood, Tex.,
is home on 21day sick leave, convalescing at the home of his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George Keener of Deis Lane.
Young Keener suffered a fractured left arm. below the
elbow, when he was struck by falling rock from a nearby blasting site. He
was removed to the Camp hospital, where he has undergone treatment for the

Mr. and Mrs. George Keener, who were married
June 24, 1914, will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with
open house for friends and relatives Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. in
their home at 228 Shafer Ave., Dover.
Mrs. Keener, the former Iva Porter, daughter of
the late Joseph and Sarah Porter of near Strasburg, and Mr.
Keener, son of the late John and Sadie Keener of near Zoarville,
were married in St. John's United Church of Christ at Dover with
Rev. D. J. Helmkamp as officiant.
Following the open house a picnic will be
attended by the couple's children and their families: John D. of
RD 3, Joe P. and Reuben E. of RD 2, Arthur P. and Mrs. Robert
(Kathleen) Jackson of Dover; Merlyn H. of RD 1, Mineral City; Mrs.
Walter (Dorothy) Barker of New Philadelphia, and Mrs. Eldon (Ruth)
DeVore of Marietta. There are 22 grandchildren and 7
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Keener, a former employe of Robinson Clay
Products in Parral and the U.S. Quarry Tile Co. in East Sparta,
retired about 9 years ago.
He takes care of the yard at their home while
Mrs. Keener enjoys crocheting and embroidering. And of course they
both can find time to "lend a helping hand" when the
children or grandchildren need it.
They are members of South Moravian Church.

The former Iva Porter of Strasburg and George
were married June 24, 1914, in St. John's Evangelical Church by

The couple has eight children, 22 grandchildren
and 12 great-grandchildren.
No special observance is planned.

Family Honors George Keeners
The 60th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
George (Iva Porter) Keener of 228 Shafer av., Dover, was observed
Monday with a family get-together in their home. Over 50 attended.
The couple was married June 24, 1914 in St.
John's Evangelical and Reformed Church (now United Church of
Christ) in Dover. Rev. Theodore Schlundt officiated.
All the couple;s eight children attended the
observance. They are Mrs. Elden (Ruth) Devore of Marietta, Mrs.
Walter (Dorothy) Barker of New Philadelphia, John D. (Dave), Joe
and Reuben of RD 2, Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Jackson and Arthur of
Dover, and Merlyn of Bolivar.
Twenty-two grandchildren and 17

Oct. 21 newlyweds reside in Germany
Fr. Raymond Totten solemnized the Oct. 21 marriage vows
of Bridget Hardy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Hardy of Central av.,
Bolivar, and Paul Norman Finlayson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tedd L. Finlayson
of Park av., Bolivar.
The couple's 7 p.m. nuptials were read in Bolivar St.
Stephens Catholic Church. Sandy Keener was organist.
Renee Gold of Bolivar was Bridget's maid of honor,
while Mrs. Alan (Mary) Robbins of Bolivar, sister of the bridegroom, was
bridesmaid.
Bruce Vansickle served as Paul's best man. Tedd F.
Finlayson II, brother of the bridegroom, was groomsman, and ushers were
Robert J. Finlayson, brother of the bridegroom, and Donald F. Hardy Jr.,
and Richard Hardy, brothers of the bride. All are of Bolivar.
A reception was held in the American Legion Hall. A
rehearsal dinner was held in J and L Restaurant at Zoar.
Following a honeymoon at Niagara Falls and Ontario,
Canada, the couple will reside in Germany where Paul is serving with the
Army.
Bridget, a 1971 Tuscarawas Valley High graduate, is an
employe of Stoll's IGA at Canton.
Paul is a 1968 Tuscarawas Valley High graduate.
