My name is Therman and I will be your temporary host for
Washington County, Ohio. I am only here temporarily until
someone would like to adopt it as their own. See below for more
about adopting this site. The
goal of Genealogy Trails is to help you track
your ancestors through time by transcribing genealogical and
historical data for the free use of all researchers. I'll
be posting as much information online as possible
- feel free to contribute your
Obits, Biographies and Pioneer Family History by sending
me an
email!
We're looking for folks who share our
dedication to putting data online and are interested in
helping this project be as successful as it can be. If you are
interested in joining Genealogy Trails,
view our
Volunteer Page
for further information and then contact Kim
.
(Enough knowledge to make a basic webpage
and a desire to transcribe data is
required)
We regret that we are unable to
perform personal research for folks. All data
we come across will be added to this site. We thank you for
visiting and hope you'll come back again to view the updates
we make to this site. If you would
like to be kept informed of our state and county website updates,
subscribe to any or all of our mailing
lists

History of Washington County
Ohio
Washington County, originally
about one-half the territory now included in the State of
Ohio, was established by proclamation of Gov. Arthur St.
Clair, Governor of the Northwest Territory, on the 26th day of
July, 1788. Events which led up to this establishment were due
to the preserverance of two great men, Gen. Rufus Putnam and
Rev. Dr. Manasseh Cutler, the formation and function of the
Ohio Company and the passage by the Continental Congress of
the "Ordinance of 1787".
County Seat: Marietta, the oldest city in
Ohio, founded in 1788.
