Dorshimer Killed In Auto Wreck
Farmer Dies When Autos Collide On Route 15
Another accident involving a fatality occurred
yesterday afternoon at 4:30 on Route 15 about 5 miles north of
Bryan. Lee Dorshimer, 81, of near Bryan, died in the
ambulance on the way to Cameron hospital after receiving a skull
fracture and other injuries in the accident.
Mr. Dorshimer was driving his 1930 Ford tudor
south on 15 and was closely followed by David Russell, 53, of
Dayton, Ohio, who was driving a 1947 Dodge sedan.
Russell was about to pass the Ford when
Dorshimer made a lft hand turn in front of him to go into his
driveway. Russell could not stop in time to avoid the crash.
Dorshimer's car rolled over and completely demolished it and the
Dodge skidded 105 feet before coming to a stop in the right hand
ditch.
The following statement was made by Russell to
Deputy Sheriffs Bill Lamont and Dan Zuver who investigated the
accident. "I was traveling south on Rte 15 about 45
miles per hour. I had slowed some and blew my horn.
The Ford was traveling in the same direction at something like 30
miles an hour. I started to pass when the Ford suddenly
turned left to go into a farm driveway. I jammed on my
brakes but could not pass behind him. I hit him, turning the
Ford over and turning me around."
At the time of the accident Russell's speed was
believed to be about 50m.p.h. Mr. Russell suffered only
minor injuries.
The body is in the Allen Funeral Home in
Montpelier. Funeral services will be conducted in the Home
at 2:30p.m. Friday with Rev. Lowell Rupp officiating. Burial
will be in Riverside cemetery.
