AGED MAN OF NOBLE SHOOTS, KILLS SELF; HERE SINCE OPENING

W. H Hicks fires fatal shot into brain; Has two sons here
W. H. Hicks of Noble, an '89er, shot and fatally wounded himself at his home at Noble Saturday afternoon, dying about 5:30 p.m. He was about 70 years old. The exact cause of his act is unknown, though he is said to have acted strangely in the last several days and complained that he could not eat or sleep.
Hicks came out of his house, where he lived alone, with his .22 caliber rifle in his hand about 3 p.m., according to neighbors who saw him. As he neared the gate, he turned the gun on himself and fired. The shot took effect in his head, back of the ear.
The aged man was a farmer in this county from the time of the opening until a few years ago. His wife died three or four years ago. Three sons and a daughter survive. The sons are Wid and Joe Hicks of Norman, and Ant Hicks of Meeker. The daughter is Mrs. Lillie Mengus of Colgate.
Funeral arrangements had not been made Saturday night, but it was said the services probably would be held Sunday.
J. D. Holland, county attorney, investigated the death. He found that a restaurant man with whom Hick took his meals said the man seemed restless and annoyed a few days, and said he was unable to sleep. He asked the restaurant man if the latter thought chloroform would help him to rest. He was told the results probably would be fatal.
Saturday morning he obtained some of the drug from a pharmacist, saying he wanted to poison some vermin. The bottle was found half empty in the house after the shooting.

Mother And Children Die In Fire
Mrs. W. W. Warren and 2 Children

Norman, Ok., Nov. 13 - In a fire which destroyed the residence of W. W. Warren, merchant, at Denver, nine miles east of Norman, Sunday night at 11 o'clock, the wife and two children of Mr. Warren were burned to death and he received injuries which may prove fatal. The fire is supposed to have been caused by a lamp exploding in the room occupied by Mrs. Warren and the two little children, one aged 3 months and the other 2 years. Mr. Warren and two older children were occupying a room in another part of the house and he was awakened by the smoke. Almost smothered, he staggered to the window, which he broke with head and feet, making a hole, through which he crawled and pulled the children to safety. The flames had reached such a headway, however, that a wall of fire met him when he tried to get to the wife and other children and rescue was impossible. His head and face and feet are badly burned and it is feared he may have inhaled the flames.
