History of Coal
County, Oklahoma

Coal County was formed from the Choctaw Nation, the name being derived from the fact that coal underlies a large
part of the county and is one of the chief sources of industry.
Its area is 522 square miles.
The surface is rolling and mining and agriculture are the principal industries.
