These two brothers were almost raised in the banking business and will, therefore, make a good, strong banking team. We take pleasure in extending the glad hand of welcome to Mr. and Mrs. McPherson.

- W. D. Sorrels, a wide-a-wake farmer, about six miles south of town, called in to see us Monday morning for the purpose of having the Champion sent to his son in North Dakota. During a pleasant conversation, we learn that he was an old Anthony, Kansas, man. When we informed him that he was then talking to the founder of the first newspaper in Harper county, that we started the Anthony Journal while the grass was still green in the center of the streets of that town, the conversation picked up quite lively. Those were "wild and wooly" frontier days, when we used corn and buffalo chips for fuel and the farmers gathered buffalo bones as their cash crop. To make it still more interesting, and add a little more "spice" and "ginger" to life, we were in the cyclonic midst of one of those frontier county seat fights, and well do we remember when some six hundred armed men swept down from the north and surrounded our office just at daylight one beautiful morning, for the purpose of taking the county records up to our rival town, Harper City. Not being able to see any signs of life, these would-be marauders were puzzled, until they learned that an equal number of men at that moment had a "bead on them" from near by buildings. Then they "wilted" and went back much wiser than when they came. In the early settlement of this country some folks think they had hard times. Pshaw!! They din't even have a taste of "hard times".
