Ike Fossett
Mystery Covers Veteran’s Death
Body of Aged Clinton Man, Who Disappeared February 17, Found
Clinton, Okla., March 14—The body of Ike Fossett, aged 70, who disappeared from his home here February 17, was found lying face down in a ravine on the outskirts of Clinton, Monday, by Clarence Barker, a small boy.
Fossett last was seen February 17, when he left the Frisco depot, stating that he was going to see his sick wife. When several days passed without his return, searching parties were organized and the country was scoured from end to end without avail.
Immediately after Coroner V. F. Carleton was notified of the discover of the body, a jury was empaneled and went to the ravine. The body then was removed to an undertaking establishment, where a search was made for signs of violence.
Owing to the state of decomposition little could be learned of the manner of Fossett’s death however, and the jury was forced to return a verdict of death from unknown causes.
Fossett was a veteran of the war between the states and drew a heavy pension. A pension check is awaiting him at the postoffice here now. Fossett was married and has a brother living here who is in the service of the Rock Island.
