Fred Thomas Caveny

RUSH SPRINGS — Funeral for Fred Thomas Caveny, 79, Rush Springs, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rush Springs Southern Baptist Church with the Rev. Elmer Whitehead officiating.
Mr. Caveny died Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in Oklahoma City.
Burial will be at Westview Cemetery, Rush Springs, under direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home, Marlow.
 

He was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Clovis, N.M., to William Harmon Caveny and Minnie Stillwell Caveny. He married Edna Charlene Townsend on Nov. 19, 1947, in Duncan. He lived in the Rush Springs area since the early 1940s.
 

He was a carpenter and raised cattle and horses. He was a member of Southern Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Karen Caveny, Nolan and Linda Caveny and Lynn and Adrienne Caveny; six grandchildren; two sisters: Betty Stillwell and her husband and Bina Caveny; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers. 

Beatrice McVey Charlson

BEATRICE McVEY CHARLSON, 78, of Rush Springs, Okla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007, in Chickasha.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 20, 2007, at the Rush Springs Cemetery, with David Hale officiating. Services are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.
 

Beatrice was born June 17, 1929 in Cogar, Okla., to Carl and Rose Murlin Topley. Beatrice attended school at Chickasha and Verden. She lived in the Rush Springs and Chickasha area all of her life. Beatrice married Lawrence Charlson on Sept. 27, 1948 in Chickasha. He preceded her in death on April 3, 1996.
 

She loved to be with her children and grandchildren, and attended any activities they were in. Beatrice also loved all of her various animals. She took care of and fed many of them. Beatrice was of the Baptist faith.
 

Survivors include a son, Ole Charlson and wife Diana of Rush Springs; two daughters, Lori Rodgers and Jeff Franklin of Blanchard, and Jeannie Martin and husband Barry of Rush Springs; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Danny Earl Charlson; her parents; a brother, Benny Topley; and a sister, Patsy Goddard.

Charlean Joy Charlson

 

CHARLEAN JOY CHARLSON, 73, of Marlow, who died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2003, at the Gregston Nursing Home, were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, with the Rev. William A. Moore officiating. She was buried at the Rush Springs Cemetery.

Charlean was born 25 Dec 1929, to James Anderson and Ollie Mae (Newberry) Morris in Oklahoma. She was the youngest child of six children. On June 21, 1946, Charlean married Owen Reford Charlson in Duncan, Oklahoma. They had three children, Joy Ann, Mary Jeanette and Reaford Dennis.

Survived by Charlean is her loving husband Owen. Three children, Joy and Howard Pierce of Guyman, Oklahoma. Mary and Pat Kinsey of Duncan, Oklahoma and Dennis Charlson of Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Seven grandchildren, Sheila, Melody, Bennie, Lonnie, Tina, Kevin, Melissa and eight great-grandchildren.

She will be miss forever!

Owen R. Charlson

Marlow - OWEN R. CHARLSON, 83, of Marlow, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006, in Marlow.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs with the Rev. Lynn Parkhurst officiating. Burial will be in Rush Springs Cemetery.
Owen was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Ninnekah, to Ole Martin and Clara Echols Charlson. He grew up in Agawam and graduated from Kechi school. He played basketball for Kechi and refereed at Cox City for several years.
He joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II.

After his discharge, he married Charlean Morris of Agawam on June 21, 1946, in Duncan. She preceded him in death Nov. 12, 2003. They moved to Cox City, where he worked for Mack Oil Co. as a pumper for 32 years. After Owen's retirement, they moved to Rush Springs.
 

He enjoyed watching football and basketball at Rush Springs and was a Sooner fan. He could listen to two games at the same time and know exactly what was happening in each one. Owen was of the Baptist faith.
 

Survivors include a son, Dennis Charlson and wife Sherry of Rush Springs; two daughters, Mary Kinsey and husband Pat of Duncan, and Joy Pierce and husband Howard of Guymon; seven grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two step-great-grand-children; a great-great-granddaughter; and a step-great-great-grandson.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred Charlson, Lawrence Charlson, Edwin Charlson and Martin Charlson; and three sisters-in-law, Juanita Charlson, Janye Charlson and Martha Charlson.
Bearers will be Bennie Musgrove, Lonnie Pierce, Steven Collins, Danny Mercer, Wayne Newman and Kolby King.
Honorary bearers are Kevin Charlson, Pat Kinsey, Howard Pierce and Boyd Van DeMark.

Sandra K. Cobb


Rush Springs: Sandra Kaye (Pelley) Cobb, 53, Rush Springs, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2007 in Lawton.

Services will be held at 10:30 am, Wednesday, August 15, 2007, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, with Clif Werhan officiating. Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.

Sandra was born Wednesday, June 23, 1954 in Chickasha, to Robert Pelley Sr. and Minnie (Loyd) Pelley. She graduated from Rush Springs High School in 1971. Sandra lived in the Rush Springs area all of her life. Sandra worked for Battison as a service manager. She enjoyed farm work, the outdoors and fishing. Sandra loved to read and spend time with her family. She was a big OU fan. Sandra also enjoyed her granddog and grandcat. She was a member of the Oklahoma Cattleman's Association and was of the Baptist faith.

Her survivors include, Daughter, Dee Dee Havins & fiance Larry Penick of Yukon, OK; Mother, Minnie Pelley Wilhite of Rush Springs, OK; Brother, Robert Pelley & wife Oreta of Rush Springs, OK; 2 Sisters, Mary Story & husband Sam of Branson, MO, Fern Bennett of Chickasha, OK; Several Nieces & Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.

Linda Sue Cochran

Linda Sue Cochran, 57, Oklahoma City, went home to be with the Lord on April 12, 2007. Linda was born on May 5, 1949 to William F. and Nellie E. Anderson. She was a very creative and gifted artist. Linda loved spending time with her family, going to the movies, watching OU football and dancing. She also was a wonderful cook that loved to prepare meals for family gatherings. Linda always found the best in all people and all situations. She was an amazing mother, daughter, sister, and soon to be grandmother; who loved her family with all her heart. She will forever be missed and loved by her family and friends. Linda is survived by her mother; her son, Justus Cochran and wife Lindy; 3 brothers, Gary, Vincent, and Victor Anderson and wife Beverly; 2 nephews, Matt Anderson and wife Heather and Jeff Anderson; and one grandchild to be born this August; along with many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father. Services are 10:00 AM, Monday, April 16th, 2007 at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary, South in Oklahoma City. Interment to follow at Rush Springs Cemetery in Rush Springs, OK.

STELLA BESSIE HEATH COFFEE, 97, former Rush Springs, Okla., resident, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2008, in Midwest City.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Rush Springs Cemetery, with David Hale officiating. Services are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.
Stella was born in Rush Springs on Oct. 29, 1910, to Arthur and Betty Gunn Jones. She married Carl Eugene Heath in 1926. They bought a farm where they farmed and raised cattle until Carl's death in April 1953. In January 1955, she married Irvin Bert Coffee and moved to his farm where she helped raise two of his children, Pat Pelton and Gene Coffee. They enjoyed many years of traveling and camping after Irvin's retirement. The children and grandchildren enjoyed going with them on their trips. She was a hard worker and enjoyed spending the summers in her gardens. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Rush Springs.
Survivors include two sons, Melvin Heath and wife Betty of Rush Springs, and Gene Coffee and wife Frances of Edmond; two daughters, Madeline Schooley of Midwest City, and
Juanita Scott of Florence, Ala.; 11 grand-children; 24 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her two husbands; a daughter, Patsy Pelton; her parents; and two brothers, Arthur Jones, Jr. and Billy Ray Joyce.

Vera Canelia Collins

Chickasha - VERA CANELIA "COTTON" COLLINS, 83, of Chickasha, died Friday, January 19, 2007, in Oklahoma City.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. today in Ferguson Funeral Home Chapel, Chickasha, with Ken Davenport officiating, and Bob Craddock assisting. Interment will be in Rush Springs Cemetery.
Vera Canelia was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Agawam, the daughter of Will S. Berry and Rosie Lee Tindel.
She grew up in the Agawam area, graduating from Ninnekah High School in 1942.
Cotton married Lowell E. Collins on Sept. 1, 1943, in Chickasha. They made their home in the Ninnekah area where she worked various jobs. She was employed at Tinker Field in the Civil Service Department, retiring after 12-1/2 years because of her health.
Cotton enjoyed cooking, ceramics, sewing, picnics and caring for her grandchildren. Later in life, she also enjoyed playing games at the Sterling House and trips to Braum's.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ninnekah.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Paula Jean and Greg Cook of Marlow; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Christopher and Dana Cook of Hollis, and Nathan and Becky Cook of Kansas City, Mo.; a sister, Margaret Jervis of Moore; a brother, Harvey and Betty Berry of Ninnekah; and a great-granddaughter, Jaycee Cook of Hollis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell E. Collins; her parents; sisters, Dorothy Lamprecht, Faye Robbins and Josephine Britton; and brothers, Jack Berry, Vernon Berry and Cecil Berry.

 

Thelma Bray Cook

THELMA BRAY COOK, 88, of Alex, Okla., passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007 in Alex.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, with Rev. Greg Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.
Thelma was born January 30, 1919 in Stephens County, to John Albert and Beulah Copenhaver Bray. She attended school at Vimy Ridge. She married Allen Albert Cook in Nov. 1937 in Chickasha. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1998. They lived in Healdsburg, Calif., in the 1950's. Thelma was employed by DFA of California as a dried fruit inspector for 25 years. Thelma was very knowledge-able of the industry, as well as devoted. Upon retiring, they moved back to Oklahoma in 1992. She enjoyed gardening in her flower beds until her health began to decline two years ago. Thelma will be missed by her family as she has been an inspiration to them all. She was a member of the Rush Springs Church of Christ.
Her survivors include two sisters, Mary Ruth Parks and husband G. T. of Alex, Madge McNeil and husband Earl of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; four brothers, Durwould Bray, Forest Bray, Carl Bray and Bert Bray; and a sister, Cora Davis.
Pallbearers will be Don Bray, Rocky Bray, Terry Bray, Larry Bray, Tony Bray and Colby Langford.

Viola Frances Cook

HAMLIN -- Viola Frances Cook, 93, died Wednesday, August 23, 2006, in Hamlin. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2006, at the Assembly of God Church with Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Burial will be 4:00 p.m. Friday in Rush Springs Cemetery, Rush Springs, Oklahoma, directed by Adams Funeral Home, Hamlin, Texas.

Born December 3, 1912, Frances was the daughter of the late Marion Francis and Linnie (Wolford) Mason. She married Isaac Cook, Jr. July 27, 1927, in Rush Springs, OK. He preceded her in death August 10, 1980. Frances was a member of the Assembly of God.

Three brothers preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Logan R. Cook of Lake George, CO; three daughters, Glenda June Elmore of Hamlin, Myrna Joy Bailey, and Viola Jean Weatherspoon, both of Howe; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday 

Tom Cotham

TOM COTHAM, 93, of Rush Springs, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, in Chickasha.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, in the Rush Springs Cemetery, with Clif Werhan officiating. Services are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.
Tom was born Jan. 25, 1914, in Bonham, Texas, to Wheeler W. and Irene O'Neal Cotham. He graduated from Alma High School and attended East Central University at Ada. He joined the U.S. Air Force with the Army Reserves, and his first job was working for the W. B. Flying School in Chickasha during the war.
He came to Rush Springs with the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's. He married Maxine Virginia Glover on Sept 16, 1939 in Chickasha. Tom retired after 20 years with Halliburton in the Export Shipping Department. He enjoyed watching ballgames, mowing, tinkering with saws and doing woodwork.
He served on the Rush Springs School Board and the Grady County Election Board. He was a long-time secretary for the Lion's Club in Rush Springs. He was the charter member of the Quarterback Club/Booster Club, and he was a former president of the CCC Reunions. Tom was an avid Redskin Fan and he and Maxine were honored by the Rush Springs Booster Club. He was a member of the Masons and the Lion's Club. Tom attended First Baptist in Comanche in his earlier years, but most recently attended the Church of Christ with his wife, but retained his faith as a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine Virginia Cotham of the home, and a brother, James Cotham of Pittsburg, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Opal May Cox

Graveside services for Opal May Cox, 89, of Chickasha, Okla., will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, at the Rush Springs Cemetery, Rush Springs, Okla. Rev. Elmer Whitehead will officiate.
Opal May Cox was born Aug. 6, 1912, in Tupelo, Miss., and died on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001.
Services are under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel, Rush Springs.

Richard L. Cox

Funeral for RICHARD L. COX, 59, Lawton, was Friday at Rush Springs Cemetery with Gene Townsend, pastor, Christ the Rock Church, officiating.
Mr. Cox died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at his home.
He was born Aug. 26, 1945, in Lock Haven, Pa. He served two tours in Vietnam. While in the service he received many accommodations and medals, including the Bronze Star, which he received in 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl, of the home; a son, Robert Daniel Lloyd, Rush Springs; two daughters, Natasha Cox, Friendswood, Texas, and Amy Delk, Rush Springs; six grandchildren, Garric Rodgers, Friendswood, and Daniel, Brooke and LaDonna Delk, and Traci and Evan Lloyd, all of Rush Springs; and his parents-in-law, Robert and Betty Sampley, Rush Springs.

BOBBY G. CRABB, 74, of Paris, Texas, passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in Paris.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, with Robert Newman officiating. Burial will be in Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow.
Bobby was born Wednesday, Nov. 8, 1933, in Rush Springs, to William Fleman and Jesse Pearl Crabb. Before moving to Paris, Texas, Bobby lived in Antlers, Paonia, Colo., Fairbanks, Alaska, Odessa, Texas, Duncan and Rush Springs. He graduated from Rush Springs High School. Bobby married Cleo Ann Doyle on Jan. 20, 1956, in Jayton, Texas. Bobby enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He was also a rock hound and enjoyed panning for gold.
His survivors include his wife, Cleo Ann Crabb of the home; three daughters, Karen Lyn Crabb Eskuri and husband Steve of Edgewood, N.M., Janet Lee Crabb of Paris, Connie Jo Crabb Beard and husband Daniel Ray of Paris; one grandchild, Wendy Irene Eskuri of Edgewood; and a brother, Alton Fleman Crabb and wife Betty of Rush Springs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and two brothers, Leonard Dale Crabb and Billy Wayne Crabb.
 

Lenard Dale Crabb

Lenard Dale Crabb, 86, of Lockney, Texas, former Rush Springs, Oklahoma resident, died Sunday, September 16, 2007 in Amarillo. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs, Oklahoma with Rev. Terry Beard officiating.

Burial was in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.

Lenard was born Saturday, August 13, 1921 in Empire, Oklahoma to William Flemon and Jessie (Watkins) Crabb.

He graduated from Rush Springs High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served during W.W. II on the USS Hancock.

He married Dorothy Fay Hall on December 16, 1945 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was a retired carpenter. They lived in many Texas towns including Quitaque, Jayton, Paint Creek, Highland, Lockett, Wichita Falls, Silverton and Floydada. Lenard enjoyed collecting model trains, cars, reading and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Lockney, Texas.

His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Fay Crabb of the home; son, William Ray Crabb and wife, Miu of Reno, Nevada; daughter, Lenda Clark and husband, Oliver of Lockney; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alton Crabb and wife, Betty of Cox City, Oklahoma; Bob Crabb and wife, Cleo of Anthers, Oklahoma and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Crabb.

Pallbearers were Larry Crabb, Larry Joe Crabb, Craig Crabb, Boyd Pendley, Billy Joe Crittendon and Kody Krawtzow. Honory pallbearers were Scott Dennis, Jim Williams, Charles Garner, Cliff Creech, Bob Graves, Bud Craddock, Junior Hale, Billy Evans, Ricky Large, Kenneth Grooms and Billy Wayne Crabb.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Bailes-Polk Funeral Home. 

William Crow

Funeral service for William "Calvin" Crow, 93, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 27, 2003, at Grand Assembly of God Church.
William "Calvin" Crow was born December 11, 1909, in Milo, Carter County, Oklahoma, the son of Thomas Sanford and Minerva "Nervie" Belle (Wood) Crow and died October 23, 2003, in Chickasha.
Mr. Crow moved from Milo to Rush Springs in a covered wagon when he was 5 years old. He had lived in Grady County for 88 years.
He and Marice (Laverne) Bennett were married April 30, 1941, in Chickasha. Mr. Crow owned and drove his own trucks.
Mr. Crow served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Grand Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Crow was preceded in death by: parents; 4 brothers: Willis, Alvie, Elmer, and Robert Lee Crow; 3 sisters: Minnie Mills, Stella Harland and Leda Gilbreath.
Survivors include: wife, Marice (Laverne) Crow of the home; 1 daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Larry Hatfield of Chickasha; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Becky Crow of Houston, Texas; 2 sisters: Odell Brown and husband, David of Redding, California, Ethel Lewis of Ashdown, Arkansas; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Interment will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
