Charles (Shorty) Ardell Marrell

Funeral for Charles "Shorty" Ardell Merrell, 56, Chickasha, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 1992, in Brown-Binyon Funeral Home Chapel.
Charles Ardell Merrell was born December 13, 1935 in Chickasha, the son of George G. Merrell and Ethel Oogden Merrell. He died July 4, 1992 in Oklahoma City.
At 17, he joined the US army, serving his country for 22 years. He served during Korean and Vietnam, receiving the following medals: National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Expert Rifle in Vietnam, Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, and the Bronze Four Loops. Charles was honorable discharged in 1973.
He was preceded in death by his father, George G. Merrell in November, 1966; his mother, Ethel Merrell Williams, in August 1989; one brother, James L. Merrell, in December 1982, and daughter and granddaughter, Charlene and Shelley Dean Williams, in May 1976.
Interment will be in Mustang Cemetery, Mustang, OK.

Melville Holcomb

Graveside services for Beulah Holcomb, 81, Marietta, GA., will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 1992, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha.
She was born Oct. 13, 1910, in Fletcher, the daughter of Eliza and Bertha Meville. She died early Monday, July 6, 1996, in St. Joseph Hospital, Atlanta, GA.
She moved from Fletcher to Chickasha when she was four years of age. She married Harry Holcomb on June 12, 1930. She was a church organist at First United Methodist Church, Groesbeck, Texas, for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Holcomb, in December 1986.
Services will be under the direction of Porter Funeral Home

Jason Adolph McLain

Minco Minstrel
Jason Adolph McLain, son of William and Catherine McLain, was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, 18 January 1852 and died 18 March 1939.
As a child he moved to Sedan, Kansas. Mr. McLain was a blacksmith and made the run in the Cherokee Strip, settling at Blackwell, Oklahoma. In the opening of this country he drew claim West of Minco and lived there until his death.
He married Miss Flora E. Moore at Sedan, Kansas 3 July 1880 and she died 14 February 1911. He had no children. 20 November he married Miss Ola McMullen.
He is survived by a brother, F. G. McLain, of Kansas.

Alice Adeline Mundell

Alice Adeline Mundell was born in Des Moines, Iowa, Dec 10, 1865, and after a brief illness, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Warner on July 17, 1939 at the age of 72 years, 7 months and 7 days.
She was united in marriage to W. S. Mundell on August 13, 1884, and to this union was born 12 children, 8 sons and 4 daughters. Four sons and two daughters preceded her in death.
She was converted and joined the Methodist Church in early girlhood and has been a faithful Christian throughout the remainder of her life. She leaves to mourn her loss, Her husband, W. S. Mundell, two brothers, Roy Berry, Norman and W. H. Berry, Ft Gibson, Oklahoma, two daughters, Mrs Nellie Warner and Mrs. Jack Walker of Norman, four sons, John Mundell, Ponca City, Aubrey Mundell, Hannibal, Wisc., Reed Mundell and Charlie Mundell of Moore Oklahoma, 37 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and a host of friends.

William M. Taylor

Taylor Dies In Lindsay


William M. Taylor, 63 year old Grady County Farmer, died at 7:05 pm Saturday in a Lindsay Hospital from apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
Deputy Sheriff Joe Underwood said Taylor had been found about 6:30 pm Saturday by a son, J. B., and His wife. The deputy said it was reported Taylor had left his home about 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon and went to the home of a son, Harold, nearby and borrowed a .22 revolver. Taylor then drove away and into a pasture a short distance from the road. The gun had apparently been held close to the right side of his head said the deputy. Powder burns covered a large area about an inch above the right ear. Deputy Underwood said Taylor left no note.
He is survived by his wife and 13 children. Funeral arrangements will be by the Brown Funeral Home of Lindsay.

Amanda Lee “Campbell” Lenochan Wampler

Amanda Lee (Campbell) Lenochan, Wampler born Jan 15, 1861 Lamar Co, TX and died Sep 3, 1957 Tuttle, Grady Co, OK. She was the youngest daughter of Lee and Ellen (Foster) Campbell.
Amanda married Tom Lenochan Feb 22, 1879 in Lamar Co, TX. They had 2 children: Victoria and Joe Lenochan. In Feb 1890 she married George Wampler at old Silver City, Grady Co, OK. Amanda and George had three sons George, Edgar and John.

Nannie Green

Funeral Services will be held in Sevier's Chapel at 2 pm Monday for Mrs. Nannie Green, 81 of 821 Idaho Ave. Mrs. Green died at her home at 7:50 am Saturday.
Mrs. Green was born March 22, 1881 in Soghatchin, Ark. and moved to Oklahoma in 1906. Mr. Green precede her in death in 1931. Mrs. Green, who has been in failing health for the past six months was a member of the Church of God at Eighth and Oklahoma.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Burnice Matz, Mrs. Leedie Foldman, Calif., Mrs. Viola Warker, Calif., Mrs. Roy Tillman, TX, Mrs. Jim Wolf, and Mrs W. T. Payne, OK. Two sons, Chester Green, TX, and Earl Green, Australia, one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Charlene Green of OK, one brother, Edgar Miller of OK, one sister, Mrs Ethel Riddle of Ark. ;38 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Cliff C. Caldwell

Minco Minstrel
Funeral servives are being held today at the Cogar Methodist Church at 2 P.M. for Cliff C. Caldwell with Rev. J. J. McDaniel officiating. Mr. Caldwell was born July 16, 1877 in Rush county Ind. and died Oct 16 in a Oklahoma City hospital at the age of 90 years.
He came to Cogar from Rushville, Ind. in 1902 and has lived there ever since. He donated the ground for the Cogar Methodist Church.
Survivors include five sons, Gilbert Caldwell, Tipton, Calif. Laroy Caldwell, Conner- ville Ind., Eugenes Caldwell, Oklahoma City, Gaylord Caldwell, Modesto, Calif. and Harold Caldwell, Cogar and one daughter, Faye Wheeler, Anadarko 20 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife and two daughters.
Burial will be in the Hazel Dell cemetery under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Home.

 

Aaron T. Curtis

Last Rites Held For Aaron T. Curtis
Rev. J. J. McDaniel, Minco, conducted last rites for Aaron T. Curtis, Thursday afternoon August 29, 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church, Minco. Curtis passed away August 27, after a lengthy illness.
Aaron T. Curtis was born January 17, 1905 at El Reno, Oklahoma the son of Robert and May Aaron Curtis. He lived west of Minco before statehood and was known by many cattle ranchers over the state.
On June 26, 1926 he was married to Ethel Thomas at El Reno, Okla. To this union four children were born. One son Paul Curtis preceded him in death.
Survivors are his wife Ethel of the home; one son Robert F.; two daughters, Mrs. Zelda May Curtis McMahan; Mrs. Elizabeth Ann Curtis Statser; six grandchildren, also a sister Emile Godchaux, and other relatives and friends. Mrs. Troy McKelvery and Calvin Woodworth sang, "In The Garden" and "Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Burgess Toll was at the organ. Pallbearers were Martin Rowe, Howard Gabehart, Dale Cooksey, Earl Halverson, Joe Fitzgerald and Fred Wakefield.
Interment was in the Hazel Dell Cemetery under the direction of Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mary Hewett Bailey

 

Funeral service for Mary Hewett Bailey, age 96, of Chickasha will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Epworth United Methodist Church. Rev. Kim Domnick will officiate and Rev. on Horton will assist.

Mary Hewett Bailey was born one of five children to Judge Frank M. Bailey and Hope Hewett Bailey on May 23, 1909, in Chickasha. She died on April 2, 2006, in Chickasha.

Mary was a lifetime resident of Chickasha graduating from Chickasha High School in 1926. She began teaching history in Chickasha in September of 1933, after teaching in Anadarko for two years.

She maintained a great fondness for her many students from 42 years of teaching. She continued to enjoy visiting with her former students and hearing about their lives and families. CHS class reunions were always a highlight for her. In 1970, she was named Teacher of the Year by the State Fair of Oklahoma.

Ms. Bailey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and government at the University of Oklahoma, and received a degree in English and mathematics at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, now U.S.A.O. Mary earned a Masters Degree in history at the University of Oklahoma, publishing a thesis on the history of Grady County.

She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church where she served on many committees and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Phi, American Association of University Women (AAUW), Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Oklahoma Education Association (OEA), Grady County Historical Society, and the Oklahoma Historical Society.

Mary held many offices in these organizations, ranging from president to treasurer. She was instrumental in organizing the Girl Scouts of America in Chickasha and served on many civic organizations. Mary loved to travel across the world.

She enjoyed reading, knitting, and needlepoint. Her true passion was researching and teaching history. She brought great insight and enthusiasm to her discussions about Oklahoma history, especially about Chickasha and the Grady County history. Her many nieces and nephews were greatly enriched by her knowledge and stories about family history.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, William Bailey, and three sisters, Elizabeth Caudle, Frances Blazer, and Blanche McCormick.

Aunt Mary will long be remembered by: twelve nieces & nephews, twenty-eight great nieces and nephews, thirty-two great great nieces & nephews, and many former students and friends.

Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.

Doris Ann Robinson-Webber

Funeral services for Doris Ann Robinson-Webber, 64, of Chickasha, OK will be held Saturday January 30, 2009 @ 2:00 p.m. at Chickasha Christian Center, 2205 South 4th Street, Chickasha, OK.

Doris was born March 24, 1934, in Chickasha, OK unto Willie Clay, and Willie Mae Robinson. She passed away at St. Anthony’s hospital in Oklahoma City, on Saturday morning, Jan. 24, 2009.

Internment will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown/Christian Funeral Home.

 

Raymond Hart

Funeral services for Raymond Hart, 88, of Chickasha, are pending with Ferguson Funeral Home.

Raymond Hart was born September 26, 1920, in Ninnekah, Oklahoma. He died Sunday, March 15, 2009, in Chickasha.

 

Daphne L. Smith

Funeral service for Daphne L. Smith, age 100 of Chickasha will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2009, in the McRay Funeral Home Chapel.

Daphne was born on January 30, 1909 in Laverty, Oklahoma. She died on February 11, 2009, in Chickasha.

Services are under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.

 

Walter William ‘Bill’ Eisenman

Walter William “Bill” Eisenman was born February 21, 1944 in Chickasha, OK, and died Monday, February 2, 2009 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital. Services for Walter William “Bill” Eisenman, 64 of Cogar, will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009, 2 p.m. at the Canaan Baptist Church NW of Minco. Officiating - Rev. Eddie Critchfield and Rev. Mike Critchfield. Burial - Evergreen Cemetery in Minco, under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home of Minco.

 

Lottie L. Slusher

Funeral services for Lottie L. Slusher, 100, of Chickasha will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2009, in the First Christian Church.

Lottie Lou Slusher was born February 3, 1909, in Chief Cloud, Oklahoma. She died February 3, 2009, in Chickasha.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.

 

 

Mary Janice (Andrews) Brauer

 Memorial service for Mary Janice (Andrews) Brauer, age 80 of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009, in the Epworth United Methodist Church. Rev. Rockford Johnson will officiate and Rev. Don Horton will assist. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Mary Janice was born the daughter of Foster Findley "F.F." Andrews and Lutie Lee Lindsey Andrews on September 19, 1928, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. She died on April 16, 2009, in Chickasha.

Janice was born and raised in Anadarko. She married Chickasha architect, Leslie George Brauer in June of 1949 in Anadarko. She graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in 1951. Janice worked as an independent sales representative for Doncaster Fashions, office manager for Redlands Girl Scout Council, real estate broker for American Real Estate, and was designated as a certified residential specialist until her retirement in 2005. She was a member of the following clubs and organizations: United States Electoral College as a Republican Elector for President Gerald Ford, representing the Oklahoma Delegation; was an original "Bellmon Belle" during Governor Henry Bellmon's first gubernatorial race; alumna of Oklahoma College for Women, now U.S.A.O.; active in the Republican Party at the local and state levels; served as a regent for Redlands Community College in El Reno; a member of the Grady County Realtors Association and the Oklahoma State Realtors Association; member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and the Chancel Choir. She sponsored various youth organizations. She was also a member of the Chickasha Home Culture Club; member of the Junior Social Workers of Chickasha; member and supporter of the Chickasha Community Theater; volunteered as a "Grey Lady" at Grady Memorial Hospital; was a member of the Chickasha Altrusa. She was a longtime member of the Chickasha Country Club and the Ladies' Bridge Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, her parents, two sisters, Jeanne McCarver and Jane Poteet and son-in-law, James Ellis Anderson.

Survivors include: Daughter: Leslie Ann Brauer Anderson of Chickasha, Son and Daughter-in-law: Judge Timothy Andrews Brauer and Sherre of Chickasha, Grandson: Leslie James "Jimmy" Anderson of Austin, Texas, Granddaughter: Lindsey Ellen Anderson of Chickasha, Grandson: Travis Goss Brauer of Chickasha, Grandson: Caleb Andrews Brauer of Chickasha, Brother-in-law: Adren Poteet of Healdton, Nephews: Bruce Poteet of Norman and Tom McCarver of Magnolia, Texas, Nieces: Jamie Aldridge of Blanchard and Paula Brown of Norman, One Great Nephew and One Great Niece. Jason Lee Mills

Funeral Services for Jason Lee Mills, 30, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, 2009 in the First Baptist Church, Ninnekah, Oklahoma.

Jason Mills was born January 7, 1979 in Marlow, Oklahoma to Joe and Monica (Nye) Mills and died Saturday, April 18, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Jason lived in Ninnekah, Oklahoma and graduated from the Ninnekah High School. Jason married Becky Garrett on February 16, 2000 and moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma to work with his father at the Handyman Home Outlet. He attended the First Baptist Church in Ninnekah, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his mother; Monica Mills, Grandparents; Floyd and Karleen Nye and George Mills.

Surviving family include: His wife: Becky Mills of the home in Chickasha; Father: Joe Mills and wife Ginny of Chickasha; Brother: Michael Mills and wife Aubrey of Chickasha; Sister: Samantha Mills of Chickasha; Grandmother: Eva Mills of Rush Springs; Mother-in-law: Cynthia Wingfield of Chickasha.; Brothers-in-law: Richard Garrett of Kentucky and Brandon Garrett of Oklahoma City and Nieces and Nephews: Jayden Mills, Monica Mills, Kristin Garrett, Hunter Garrett and Tanner Garrett. A Host of other Family and Relatives.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Interment will be in the Ninnekah Cemetery, Ninnekah, Oklahoma under the direction of the Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, Oklahoma.

 

Violet L. Adams 

Fairlawn Cemetery--Chickasha OK

 Violet L. Adams, age 86, died Friday January 31, 2003 at her home in Oklahoma City after a period of declining health.

She was born March 17, 1916 in Grady County near Chickasha to Charles E. and Fannie Pearl Ashley Rains. She grew up in Chickasha and was a graduate of Chickasha High School.

She had lived in Oklahoma City the last 45 years where she owned a thrift store, worked retail and kept foster children (200 plus) in her home.

She was active member of Southwest Baptist Church, where she was nursery supervisor for more than twenty

years. She is survived by four sons, Jim Adams, Don Justice and wife Tia, Sammy Sikes and wife Vicki and Mark Williams. Also by five grandchildren Jason Adams and wife Martha, Tracy Adams, Donald Lee Bryant, Jeremy and Rebecca Justice, two great granddaughters Teagan and Morgan Adams, three brothers Sherman, T.B. and J.D. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer, two sisters Lorrine and Edith, two brothers Allen Edward and Totsie.

Services will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2003 in the Chapel of The Good Shepherd at McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, Oklahoma with interment following in Fairlawn Cemetery at Chickasha, OK.

Larry Capshew 

Larry Dean Capshew, 46, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 in Yukon. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2008, at CrossPointe Church, 2601 SE 24th Ave in Norman under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Usry will officiate. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery in Ada.

Larry was born to Fate and Arva Capshew in Ft. Gordon, GA on March 16, 1962. He married Kaye Usry-Selby on March 19, 1993, in Ada, OK. He worked in the oil field industry for 28 years. He enjoyed golfing, riding his Goldwing, and being with his grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Fate Arthur Capshew. He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of the home; his daughter Chastity Capshew; two sons, Dusty Capshew and wife Margie, and Jesse Capshew; two step-daughters, Rhonda Minyard and Brenda Pierce; his mother, Arva Guffee and her husband Carl; sisters, Shirley and Ronnie Clifton, and Barbara and Larry Myrick; brothers, Wayne and Betty Capshew, Billy and Deloris Capshew, and Jason Capshew; eleven grandchildren, Maci, Bradyn, Zachary, Hailey, Avery, Tia, Asher, Jessica, Tyler, Emilee, and Zac, as well as several nieces and nephews.
