Silver City Cemetery
Tuttle, Oklahoma

Silver City Cemetery, is located in northern Grady County, 2 miles
north of Tuttle, overlooking the Canadian River Valley.
To get to the cemetery, from the blinking light in Tuttle, off
HWY 37, turn north on Cimarron Street, go 2 miles north, the turn west off Cimarron onto Silver City Ridge, and
go about 1/8 mile, then turn to the right on a dirt road going north through a pasture about 1/2 mile. You
will see the cemetery sitting atop a small rise in front of you.
The area was a well known Canadian River crossing for the Chisholm
Trail. The settlement was started in about 1867 and as the area grew, they had a general store with post office,
school house, hotel and blacksmith shop. The only existing reminder is the cemetery.
The story has been told that a Texas cattleman on the Chisholm
Trail took his herd to Coldwell, Kansas. He sold his cattle and was on the way back with his money when he was
robbed and killed. The cowboy was buried in Silver City Cemetery with his horse, saddle, and gun along with early
day pioneers such as the Tuttle's, Bond's. Johnson's, Campbell's and Cornett's.
