Jerry W. Helm
Jerry W. Helm died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at Walnut Whitney Convalescent Home in Carmichael of lung cancer, at age 68. He and his twin brother were born to Margaret (Goodfellow) and Roger Helm in Jackson County, Okla., Aug. 6, 1934.
Helm was raised in Pueblo, Colo., graduating from Central High School and then attending college there. He began his career in theater in high school and received a scholarship to the Pasadena Playhouse. He also attended James Dean Theater School throughout his life.
Helm worked professionally in theater, radio, television and film as a member of the Screen Actors Guild. As a young man he also worked in heavy construction, including the Glen Canyon Dam. Helm loved motorcycles and sports cars and raced Austin-Healys and crewed for other racing teams out of Southern California in the 1950s and 1960s. Helm met and married Ellen O'Kelly in Hollywood in 1964. They honeymooned, camping outside of their Austin-Healy on the Southern California coast and at Yosemite. Helm worked at UC Los Angeles and then took a job in the Dramatic Art Department at UC Davis in 1967. He taught and ran the scene shop, retiring in 1991. His hobbies included learning, telling stories, traveling on the Pacific Coast, hiking, camping, gardening, roses, fishing, architecture, art, cooking, breadmaking, airplanes, and flying, driving, woodworking and boat building. Helm was a voracious reader and member of the Friends of the Yolo County Library. He was instrumental in restoring the Woodland Opera House and was a member of the Opera House Board. He was also an active Woodland Swim Team parent, volunteer for the Yolo County Historical Society and served on the 2001-2003Yolo County Grand Jury. Helm loved the Nevada City area and spent as much time as he could visiting in the 1970s and 1980s and more recently, visiting his in-laws and his daughter's family there. Helm was preceded by his parents and by his brothers and sisters Jimmy, Peggy and Patty. He is survived by his loving wife Ellen; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Ellen and Vance Arlie Goss and grandsons Will and Tom of Nevada City; daughter and son-in-law, Annabel and Andries Fourie of Davis; sisters and brothers, Willie Randol, Donna Ayers, Jerry Helm, Tom Helm Sr., and their families; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Michele and Jim Miller of Woodland, sister-in-law Katie O'Kelly of Burlingame, nieces Renae Miller, Teresa Childers and husband Morgan and their children, all of Woodland; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial and internment will be held at a later date. Hooper and Weaver Mortuary of Nevada City is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robertson

Mrs. J. B. (Brantley B.,) Robertson, 96, died Thursday at 6:30 PM at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2 PM [illegible] Memories, officiated by the Rev. John R. Rushing. Burial at Martha Cemetery will be under the direction of Tims Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be great-grandsons.

Born November 14, 1882 in Mississippi, she moved to Oklahoma in 1903. She married J. B. Robertson in 1899 at Patrick, Texas. He died in 1943. She lived in this area since 1903, and her most recent address was 1000 N. Forrest.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Grace Loftis, Mrs. Myrtle Hall, and Mrs. Edna Rae Cook, all of Altus; a son, Jack, Wellington, Kan.; 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren; 32 great-great-grandchildren. Nov. 1978
